Plot Summary

In this supernatural thriller, a woman believes that a visitor from another dimension is trying to guide her into a sinister mystery. Feeling lonely after her daughter leaves home for college, Claire (Michelle Pfeiffer) begins to sense that something is wrong in her house, and feels a spirit is trying to contact her. At first her husband Norman (Harrison Ford), a scientist doing research in genetics, attributes her paranormal beliefs to stress or possibly a nervous breakdown, and sends her to a psychiatrist (Joe Morton) who puts no more stock in Claire's stories than does Norman. While Claire's contention that someone or something sinister is afoot leads her down a number of blind alleys, in time she becomes convinced that the mysterious happenings at her home are somehow connected to the disappearance of a woman who was a student at the nearby college and bore a striking resemblance to Claire.

Rotten: Lacking a smarter screenplay, it milks the genuine skills of its actors and director for more than it deserves, and then runs off the rails in an ending more laughable than scary. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Great suspense!

I love this movie, the acting is fantastic and even though it's not a scary movie by today's standards...it definitely gives you the chills the way old Hitchcock movies do. I'm sick of all these new age horror films that are more disturbing and gory than well-done. This film has a great story and fantastic direction. And Michelle Pfeiffer is, as always, a gem of an actress.

not that scary

ok i saw this movie when i was like 7 and i was sooo scared (hence my age) but i recently saw it again and it wasnt that scary..it was kinda confusing and u have to stay with it.. and it slows down and then u have to wait for it to pick up again...i would tell people to rent it just to check it out and have their own views on it but ITUNES WONT LET U RENT IT :p

Great Movie

This is one of my favorite movies! It is a great thriller, if your the type of person that watches films like that. Michelle Pfeiffer does a great job of acting in this movie as well.
