Plot Summary

Rob Reiner's romantic comedy documents a very unusual couple. There's never been a friendship quite like Harry and Sally's. From faking an orgasm at the corner deli, to debating the odds of having great sex with a guy named "Sheldon", there's nothing Harry and Sally don't do together. Well, almost nothing…. At the start, they are two recent college graduates who meet while sharing a ride together from Chicago to New York. They decide that it is impossible for men and women to be "just friends," and when they reach The Big Apple, they go their separate ways. Several years later they happen to be seated next to each other on an airplane, and Harry tells Sally about his recent marriage…and several years later, in another random meeting, he relays his divorce…when they become close friends…so close that their respective best friends fall in love. At a climactic New Years Eve party, they finally must confront and embrace their true feelings for each other.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: What Harry and Sally do -- the true focus of this often funny but amazingly hollow film -- is saunter through the romanticized lives of intelligent, successful, neurotic New Yorkers. – Caryn James, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: A ravishing, romantic lark brimming over with style, intelligence and flashing wit. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Nov 24, 2006

Fresh: ike Harry and Sally, the movie is hardworking, spot on; it winepresses its conversation into epigrams. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Jul 30, 2013

Fresh: The summer's uncorseted, unqualified delight. – Sheila Benson, Los Angeles Times, Jul 30, 2013

Ruined this movie by changing all of the music

All of the wonderful music of Harry Connick Jr. was taken out of this movie. "It had to be you" is not even there, not even the Sinatra version that is supposed to play at the end. It is simply ruined, it just isn't the same movie at all.......

Not the original music throughout.

To correct the post below me, there are no scenes missing from the movie that I can tell, but they have indeed replaced all the Sinatra music throughout as well as Ray Charles' "Winter Wonderland" and Bing Crosby's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"- and the replacement score doesn't quite mesh in well with the rest of the movie, in my opinion. Still, if you can overlook this- it's one heck of a good movie.

This Movie Has Been RUINED!!!!! Why was the soundtrack changed?!

I can't believe I bought this movie! It's one of my all time favorites, but it's not the same! The music has been changed, and some extra scenes of NYC have been added that are not good. It's not fair to call this "When Harry Met Sally" because it's really not the same movie. Is nothing sacred anymore? Who is responsible for this?!
