Fresh: It's easy to be distracted by (and possibly even to dismiss) "White Bird" as a tarted-up Nancy Drew mystery without recognizing it's a complex take on how teens must break away from their parents to become their own person.
Rotten: Too much good stuff to dismiss, despite a dull and desultory plot.

Hollow
This movie would be poor if it weren’t for Shailene. I felt sorry for this fantastic actress lost in a weird movie with an average story. Eva Green’s character was very weird as well and not well acted (or she did the best she could with the script) The mystery of her character, the circumstances of their marriage remained a mystery as well. Not worth the money, no big lessons learned. It was hollow, I could hear the empty space…the setting was like, empty…can’t explain it. But it left a creepy feeling of being unreal and not in an interesting, David Lynch way…
If you’re following Shailene Woodley’s career arc...
….and you should be, then rent it. The rest of the cast is a mixed bag. The dad is really well-played, but Eva Green is just not a good actress, and the friend characters are just plain ridiculous. The story itself has big holes in it, and the director definitely back-loads the movie towards a semi-interesting ending, so don’t give up on it halfway through. Unless you want to. All in all, Shailene Woodley is a wonderful young actress, so rent this, watch it once for her performance, and be done with it!
fantastic
