Plot Summary

Deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia, where every man owns a gun and a moonshine still, in a battered trailer, abides living legend Jesco White, "the dancing outlaw". As a boy Jesco was in and out of reform school and the insane asylum for taking drugs, stealing lighter fluid and for his wild behaviour. To keep him out of trouble, his daddy D-Ray taught him the art of mountain dancing - a frenzied version of tap dancing to wild country banjo music. After his daddy's murder at the hands of a pair of drunken rednecks, the crazy but charismatic Jesco out on his daddy's shoes and danced his way round the bars of the county where he met the love of his life, Cilla, who happened to be twice his age and half his height. The odd couple tried to settle down but tortured by the thought of his daddy's killers still at large, Jesco's demons resurfaced. This is his story.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: There's a crazy-dirty energy to White Lightnin' that's rarely seen in films, a raw beauty and awfulness that's both scary and exciting. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Dominic Murphy's pseudo-biopic is as visually assured as it is audacious, but behind the slickly edited imagery, the debutant's storytelling is exposed by shallow characterisation. – Patrick Peters, Empire Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: From its bleakly comic beginning to its fire-and-brimstone ending, this artful trailer-trash quasi-biopic will set your heart pounding and your feet tapping. – Anton Bitel, Film4, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Seething with blighted fervour and over-ripe with religious wrath, the wild, elemental imagery generates something truly disturbing. With its strange religious overtones and inevitably fitful conclusion, White Lightnin' is elusive and bleak. – Josh Winning, Little White Lies, Jun 24, 2010

If you are not familiar with the story of the "white, family" you may or may not like this film! If you are familiar with there background then you'll love this film! It's only based in fact, but there is some fictional items in it. That being said, give it a try!
