Plot Summary
It's 1947 Hollywood and Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), a down-on-his-luck detective is hired to find proof that Marvin Acme, gag factory mogul and owner of Toontown, is playing hanky-panky with femme fatale Jessica Rabbit, wife of Maroon Cartoon superstar, Roger Rabbit. When Acme is found murdered, all fingers point to Roger, who begs the Toon-hating Valiant to find the real evildoer.

Fresh: Although this isn't the first time that cartoon characters have shared the screen with live actors, it's the first time they've done it on their own terms.
Fresh: The real stars are the animators, under British animation director Richard Williams, who pull off a technically amazing feat of having humans and Toons seem to be interacting with one another.
Fresh: For audiences who grew up with cartoons as a natural part of their moviegoing, the shock may not be the mix of live and animated folk--it may come from the truly revolutionary sight of great icons of rival studios cheerfully rubbing shoulders.

One of the Greatest Films Ever Made!
In 1988 Disney (under its Touchstone Pictures label) and Steven Spielberg collaborated on what is considered to be the most famous fusion of live action and animation. The film has enthralled audiences of all ages since its release and has won four Academy Awards. It is also credited with thrusting the medium of animation back into mainstream public acceptance after being limited almost entirely to kiddie fare for over two decades. Look for appearances of numerous classic cartoon stars, including various Disney characters as well as Woody Woodpecker, Betty Boop, Droopy, and the cast of Looney Tunes (voiced by Mel Blanc in one of his last performances). Highly recommended - although parents of young children should take note: Judge Doom is quite scary!
