I purchased this film because some say that this is Jo Van Fleet's best film role (she's better known for "East of Eden"). She doesn't disappoint, but the film has other problems. The opening scene is a ridiculously badly done airplane sequence with Clift flying over the "Wild River" and the film ends with an equally bad similar final scene. In between, it's painfully sad to watch Clift at this stage in his career, while it's funny to see Lee Remick in perfect make-up throughout, which contradicts her child-of-the-earth role.
