Plot Summary

For 80 million years, birds have ruled the skies, seas and earth. Each spring, they fly vast distances. Each fall, they fly back on the same route. This film is the result of four years following their amazing odysseys, species by species, flying over seas and continents. Long one of France's most respected producers (Academy Award® winners Z and Black and White in Color) and actors (Z, Cinema Paradiso), Jacques Perrin takes on his greatest challenge yet: exploring the mystery of birds in flight. Five crews of more than 450 people were necessary to follow a variety of bird migrations through 40 countries and all seven continents. The result is a film of staggering beauty that opens one's eyes to the ineffable wonders of the natural world.

Gorgeous

You can watch this over and over and never get tired of the movie. It is packed full of information on a wide range of birds and the places they inhabit.

Most incredibly beautiful documentary

This documentary is the most moving, most amazingly filmed documentary I have ever seen. It ranks up there with March of the Penguins, but this came out years before. I could watch this over and over again and listen to the music and think about how amazing these animals are and how hard they work to survive and how they are driven by an unseen strength which pushes them onward in their migrations.

The information in it is fascinating. It's been a while since I've seen this last, but I don't recall it being information packed. It's more an emotional experience which is driven home by amazing facts.

The entire time, this film also makes you wonder how they could have possibly filmed it. It is a beautiful work that is worth the purchase price.
