Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: One of these days, maybe Kurt Russell and Kelly McGillis will look back at Winter People and laugh.
Rotten: An overearnest story about feudin' mountain families that's good for little more than a few hoots at its own expense.
Rotten: Winter People is the kind of movie where you sit there asking yourself questions that apparently never occurred to the filmmakers.
Rotten: The film is shot in 'Scope, but the effort is essentially wasted by dull center framing that makes the format superfluous.

One of my top 20 favorites
This movie is high on emotional intrigue and the relationships of the people. Gives you a real feel for history of the depression era and the life in the mountains of the south. Kind of like the Waltons on steroids. This movie is a hidden gem. Most people missed it when it played in the theaters.
The Winter People
A good story that was desecrated by poor acting and no doubt poor directing. Too bad too, I like the actors!
