Plot Summary

Irina Kupchenko (“Lonely Woman Seeks Lifetime Companion”) and Mikhail Ulyanov (“The Rifleman of the Voroshilov Regiment”) in a sad story directed by Nikita Mikhalkov (“Burnt by the Sun”) about two people who once loved each other. The actors’ brilliant performance makes you hang on every word. As astonishing is the direction: you feel as though you watch a theatre production. Plus an interesting directorial way of presenting the information and unfolding the action – gradually and smoothly in the beginning, and like an avalanche in the end. The outcome remains unpredictable until the very ending…One night He paid a visit to his ex-wife and found out that She was going to marry his old friend, whom he had once slandered. Wary of exposure, He demands that She should deny herself a personal happiness. His trump card is their son who doesn’t know that She is not his biological mother.
