An Alternative to the common "Princess"

My daughter just got some Disney movies for Christmas, (Cinderella, Little Mermaid etc). She even knows the names of Disney Princesses she has yet seen the movies to (i.e. Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine from Alladin, Snow White). All this is disturbing on several levels just by the ubiquitousness of their branding. For instance, she didn't know who Mulan or Pocahontas were, even though they were real people (and Mulan, in my opinion, ranks higher than all the other princesses seeing as the Emperor of China bowed to her). But also, just this whole I-need-a-man-to-save-me-and-fulfill-me-as-a-person plot device that pervades the whole thing. I'm a man, and I was VERY concerned. I tried exposing her to other female role models (PowerPuff Girls, Kim Possible, Dora the Explorer) but the programming times are erratic at best, or only hold her attention just barely, at worst. When I rented this movie for her, Disney Princesses are now starting to become a distant memory. My daughter only wants to see Wonder Woman. And although the level of violence and the adult level content is pretty advanced (she's only 3), at the same time, with my guiding hand, this will be a precursor to those conversations with her about being able to do whatever she wants, JUST LIKE THE BOYS. I normally don't thank corporations for much of anything, but I REALLY thank Warner Brothers for doing this. As a minority, I know how important pop culture representation of other groups is to an audience. And as a father of a daughter, I know it will do the same for my baby girl. signed, A father of a former-Disney Princess

WONDER WOMAN is AMAZING!!!

I was one of the first to see this at the NY Comic Con on February 6! This was, by far, the greatest Super Hero movie DC has produced so far. They raised the bar so hight that it's doubtful that they will ever reach the same quality and all around perfection that they achieved with this film. The writing was witty and comical while staying on track with the overall story line. The animation was just incredible! This epic story of Diana's origin will be available on MARCH 3!! NOT TO BE MISSED!!!

Finally!

Wonder Woman is finally getting her own film, and some great and talented people are behind it. While I still would love to see a live-action film (or dare I say, television series?), it seems like this animated movie will be well done. I wish they had stayed truer to her actual costume rather than taking some artistic liberty (tiara and belt, I'm lookin' at you). The trailer looks solid, and the music sounds incredible. As a matter of fact, I hope they release a soundtrack for this. And, I'm actually glad they're including Steve Trevor in the story--he doesn't have to be the throwaway character some people make him out to be. I can't wait to see Diana in her own movie! (Thank you, Warner Bros.)
