Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Matthew Broderick adopts just the right attitude for his role in Wonderful World.
Rotten: It's all very sincere, but watching a dweebish depressive learn that Life Is Good is a lesson of diminishing returns.
Rotten: The story never fully blends the idea of Singer's rediscovery of his artistic voice -- and even something as simple as why he was a children's performer in the first place is never addressed -- with his personal renewal.
Rotten: More impoverished than the budget is Wonderful World's script, a shopworn tale of redemption in which the constantly outraged, pot-puffing misanthrope learns that "magic is everywhere."

Good Mattew Brodrick vehicle
The movie is better than expected. The main character, Ben Singer, has more depth than a typical Brodrick character. What I liked most about this piece was how disconnected this character was from his world - the story is one of rebuilding bridges previously torn down by life and one's defenses to it. Of particular surprise was the performance of the daughter -she showed she could act well next to brodrick and give him an emotional counterpoint to his sarcasm. Well done. Better than a rental but not quite full price movie ticket. A must for any MB fan.
FANTASTIC!
It truly is a fantastic movie. A real gem.
Wonderful World
The drawback to this movie is that it took more than 2 hours just to download. I was expecting my high-speed DSL and i-tunes to work faster. Otherwise, I am a real Mathew Broderick fan, and I thought he was good in this film. I was not pleased with the color scheme, which had a slightly sepia and sixties feel to it. The plot was also pretty slow. Because of the universal themes, I would want to watch it with my daughter, BUT, the sex scenes are too close-up for that.
