Plot Summary

Xanadu is a look at the future and a loving remembrance of the way things were in the heyday of Hollywood. The musical score includes the hit songs "Magic," "I'm Alive," "All Over the World," "Suddenly," and the title song "Xanadu." Olivia Newton-John will dazzle your senses with her luminous beauty and fabulous voice. She and Gene Kelly star in this mesmerizing musical fantasy. The '40s meets the '80s in Xanadu, a very special love story and the first lavish, old-fashioned musical to utilize today's music.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: While the movie is every bit as garish and overly shellacked as the other bomb musicals of its era, at least this one looks like irresponsible amounts of money were thrown around. – Eric Henderson, Slant Magazine, Jun 27, 2008

Skip all the scenes with Michael Beck, and its a fun film.

Olivia and Gene Kelly along with the outstanding soundtrack are what this film is really about. So skip Michael Beck and his HORRIBLE acting, and its a fun flick to watch. Beck is so bad in this movie that he is the single reason why it flopped. You just can't watch him, he's that terrible. His mother should slap him he's so bad in this. It makes you ask "Who was he sleeping with that they let him on set to begin with?". Its sad that the Los Angeles Fire Dept. could not save that building from burning down. Even though just about every fire fighter at the time was trained inside the old Pan Pacific Auditorium. Thats Hollywood for you though, there is just no sense of history here.

Xanadu will always leave you happy.

I've seen a lot of movies in my sixteen years, but I must say that Xanadu is one of my personal favorites. The singing and score are amazing (which is good since it's a musical), and so are the soundtrack songs by the Electric Light Orchestra. The acting is also superb, which altogether makes this movie a fun and fantastic good time. -Brad YouTube: TheRealBrad Myspace: myspace.com/therealbradsland

5 Stars for Pure Nostalgia

OK, so it's really a dorky film. But it's such a feel-good movie--and for those of us who were 20-something when it came out, it should bring back some pretty happy memories. I know it does for me. I'm thrilled to have it on my iPod. My favorite scenes are the dance scene with ONJ and Gene Kelly and the finale. If you haven't seen it, give it a try.
