Plot Summary

An animated tongue-in-cheek documentary presented by Remy and Emile to state their case as to why humans and rats should just get along. Remy starts off as our guide through the history man and rat have shared. Emile then provides us with a lot of fun rat facts to help the viewer better appreciate the rat. The two pull out all the stops and end with a song describing a rat and human utopia.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The Friend, the feature-film debut of the German journalist Elmar Fischer, wades into morally murkier territory, imagining the quandary of a young man who might have befriended one of the terrorists. – Dana Stevens, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: First-time filmmaker Fischer examines the issues of Islamic extremism, Western decadence, and fraternal bonds, producing a compelling story that uses character and story ambiguity to appraise the fallibility of thinking one can ever truly know another. – David Blaylock, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: This topic could have been tackled with greater finesse; Fischer's conclusions feel a bit facile. But his actors do an excellent job portraying young people struggling with an almost manic paranoia. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A chilling, tense mystery. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

Great

I loved Ratatouille, so just seeing Remy again is a treat. This short is fantastic: great 3D and 2D animation, funny dialog, and a catchy musical at the end. Plus, you learn the 'importance' of rats in our society (give and take, people). I would suggest that you just pick up the Ratatouille DVD or Blu-Ray, since this is included as an extra. Enjoy :)

Your Friend the Rat

Not too impressive, AND, the trailer is VERY misleading. I thought this would be a cute short film with a lot of Remy and friends, but, it is MOSTLY a 2D cartoon, the artwork is not impressive at all. You hear Remy talking, but, you see mostly unimpressive cartoons and some old footage ... really it is just a cartoon documentary on rats. If I had seen the artwork and "documentary footage" and known that's what most of the short film consisted of, I would not have purchased. My kids found it boring. I will probably not watch again, therefore I will delete it.

verry grate

I thought that this movie really explained how humans shuld pay more respect to rats.
