Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: By failing to push their galumphing antihero toward the self-knowledge he so desperately needs, [the directors] rob the film of its emotional stakes.
Fresh: A consistently entertaining, character-driven comedy set within a community rapidly losing out to online options.
Fresh: This is raw and affecting, a real movie rather than fan-con fun.
Fresh: This film comes from a place that is, perhaps to the creators' consternation, legit.

Donut/Taco Palace III
This film won the Audience Award as SXSW, so maybe some would disagree with the reviews so far.
All aspects of this indie film are something to behold. Sam Eidson creates a new nerd for film that isn't hip! Being a nerd is something bought and sold like a Target T-shirt, something people pretend to be embarrassed about on Facebook, "So, I know I'm a nerd but..."
If you don't have a crap job, self-esteem issues, and an unhealthy obsession with something game-related, you're not a nerd in 2013.
Gratz to the film makers and people on kickstarter and all involved with bringing this film to a wide audience!
Great Movie!!
Loved the Movie!
A dark comedy with some weight
I enjoyed ZERO CHARISMA a lot. I definitely have known people who were a lot like the main characters. This film treats its characters seriously and humanely. It would have been easy for the film makers to approach them as stereotypes. Instead, they take time to explore how a person might become someone like the main character. They also have a good grasp on RPGs and other geek-culture things, which helps it all feel more like an insider's perspective.
The movie's overall success rests with the fearless lead performance by Sam Eidson as Scott. He manages to add a little sympathy to a largely belligerent and pathetic character, so his underlying pain is evident. Scott is like an overgrown kid in many ways, and I found myself really rooting for him to take responsibility for himself get his life together.
ZERO CHARISMA was made on a micro-budget -- fortunately, story and character development don't cost much. It's a comedy, but a dark one. Don't go in expecting a feature-length episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY. This movie has way more heart and brains.
