Plot Summary
A story about greed, politics and the land grab of the century, ZIPPER chronicles the battle over an American cultural icon. Small-time ride operator, Eddie Miranda, proudly operates a 38-year-old carnival contraption called the Zipper in the heart of Coney Island’s gritty amusement district. When his rented lot is snatched up by a real estate mogul, Eddie and his ride become casualties of a power struggle between the developer and the City of New York over the future of the world-famous destination. Be it an affront to history or simply the path of progress, the spirit of Coney Island is at stake. In an increasingly corporate landscape, where authenticity is often sacrificed in the interest of economic growth, the Zipper may be just the beginning of what is lost.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Though not terribly nuanced, a bit muddled and lacking certain perspectives, "Zipper" drives home the fragile identity of even the city's signature locales and the alarming cultural myopia of much redevelopment ...
Fresh: The story isn't over by the time "Zipper" ends, but Nicholson manages to close on a nostalgic, if not quite hopeful, note.
Fresh: "Zipper'' tells a story of a Coney Island that is still very much a work in progress, and where there seems to be no room for small-time operators like Eddie Miranda.
Rotten: More effective as a loving send-off than an insightful look at the so-called "tides of progress" that have led to Coney Island's slow decline.

Amazing story
I saw this doc at the Montclair Film Festival and thought it was brilliantly executed, the director weaved a compelling story that juxtaposed different story lines in a masterful way!! One of the best docs I have seen this year.
Great film
Such an enjoyable documentary about an american landmark. The film isn't just about Coney Island, it's about the changing times in our country. And the ending sequence is just pure genius.
Excellent Film
I saw this at the MoMA in NYC this spring. A really great film, very well made. All about the little guy and his struggles against "the man," and the big picture of Coney Island real estate. Well worth it.
