Plot Summary
How do you reconcile a commitment to non-violence when faced with violence? Why do the poor often seem happier than the rich? Must a society lose its traditions in order to move into the future? These are some of the questions posed to His Holiness the Dalai Lama by filmmaker and explorer Rick Ray. Ray examines some of the fundamental questions of our time by weaving together observations from his own journeys throughout India and the Middle East, and the wisdom of an extraordinary spiritual leader. This is his story, as told and filmed by Rick Ray during a private visit to his monastery in Dharamsala, India over the course of several months. Also included is rare historical footage as well as footage supplied by individuals who at great personal risk, filmed with hidden cameras within Tibet. Part biography, part philosophy, part adventure and part politics, "10 Questions for The Dalai Lama" conveys more than history and more than answers - it opens a window into the heart of an inspiring man.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: "10 Questions for the Dalai Lama" is a tedious title for an anything-but-tedious film that expertly merges the mystical and the mundane.
Fresh: Part history lesson and part profile, the film presents a concise, cogent account of recent Tibetan history as well as an engrossing onscreen conversation with one of the world's great spiritual leaders.
Rotten: The 11th question would be: Does a TV-grade travelogue followed by a halfway-decent Q&A warrant a theatrical release?
Fresh: There have been several documentaries about the Dalai Lama, but few have done a better job of packaging the Tibetan religious leader's circumstances, both historical and current, along with his philosophies, than 10 Questions for the Dalai Lama.

10 Questions...
The film is simple, to the point, and a very clean overview of the Dalai Lama's history as well as Tibet in relation to China. It raises questions on life, the future, politics, and where we stand in the middle of it. All is accented with the Dalai Lama's brilliantly simple and quite beautiful take on life in a short but sweet interview towards the end of the film. Those who know nothing about the Dalai Lama will enjoy and learn much, it's a good starting point for learning Tibet's history and spirituality. The low-budget and low-key filmmaking makes the documentary all the more intimate and real; a true experience.
AMAZING!!!!
I can only wish that this film can help other learn that peace and love does work. Love and peace has worked and will always work. We must watch, listen, and take in all that is said here. We owe it to Tibet and Tibets people. China must stop these selfish acts of hate and greed. LEARN FROM YESTERDAY AND TODAY!!! To bring a better future.
The Americans Introduction to Tibet
This Movie is a great introduction to who is the Dali Lama, and what he is fighting for. It spends a good part of time on history, but is well balanced by a spotlight on now and the future. The Music is not to be missed either. I highly recommend it for all who want to learn about Tibet, in a comfortable setting.
