Plot Summary

10 Yards is a documentary about fantasy football. It follows the story of j.fred, a carbon monoxide detector salesman, and his two filmmaker buddies as they battle it out during the course of a season in the INTERGALACTIC CHAMPIONSHIP League, where the top prize is a box of Twinkies. As the season progresses, filmmakers Josh Caldwell and Hunter Weeks (both members of the league) travel the country interviewing various fantasy football fanatics, NFL players, commentators, and all walks of life. Meanwhile j.fred stays in touch through the use of a video diary system and the three, along with the rest of the INTERGALACTIC CHAMPIONSHIP League, meet up in Mexico for j.fred's annual retirement party. Every year he declares his retirement as commissioner of the league and uses it as an excuse to get everyone together in the same city. Throughout the story, the friends face some challenging "real-life" moments which help shed light on the significance fantasy football has had in helping solidify very life long friendships. Beyond an extensive look at this massive US sub-culture, where it's estimated 20 million people are playing fantasy football, 10 Yards is a story about friendship, camaraderie, and the transition into adulthood.

AN INVENTIVE FLAT OUT HILARIOUS FURIOUSLY PACED GEM

10 Yards is the one documentary every filmmaker will be talking about for years to come. An instant classic that is an unrepentantly brilliant and subversive film that is funny at the same time.

j.fred is suave and charming and Hunter and his pal Josh do a great job as their rivalry reaches the brink. This movie is more about fantasy and less about football. It is unique, unformulgaic treasure. Once you see the finale you'll understand. I don't think I have wanted to cry and smile at the same time since watching grown men stumble over each other at the Special Olympics.

I don't want to give too much away of the plot line because that would not do it justice. Basically, 10 Yards is about a group of three friends and one season of fantasy football in a league called the INTERGALACTIC CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE where the winner gets a box of Twinkies. Interspersed between scenes of the group as they travel across country for no explicable reason are small vignettes where the filmmakers, who are also the participants, meet up with real life NFL coaches and players, to find out there take on the meteoric rise of fantasy football. There answers will surprise you and also make you smile. Especially, Dan Marino in his first film appearance since Ace Ventura.

Howlingly funny at times and consistent from start to finish, it pushes the boundaries of good taste and plausibility. A go-for-broke classic that even your mother would enjoy. Director Hunter Weeks attempt to capture an infernal year of football is the cleverest film in quite some time. A raucous bromance that will leaving champing at the bit.

A slightly twisted perfectly shaped gem.

Dull

I love fantasy football so I was really looking foward to this doc but I have to say I found it ultimately pretty boring. I think most FF fans ' time is better spent talkin' trash and trading laughs with your own league buddies.
