Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Forget it if you're hoping for some of the pleasures found in Sidney Lumet's 1957 film -- the gradual unraveling of a crime, the heroics of a single juror who persuades his fellow citizens to listen to reason. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: A loose remake that's not only as Russian as vodka but also a grippingly entertaining actors' showcase. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The film transforms Rose's play into a ballet of sorts. The story is as much about movement as it is about words. – Dan Zak, Washington Post, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A powerful new film inspired by a powerful older one. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Revolutionary movie!!!!

Don't listen to any of the negative comments about this film. If you can understand Russian like I can this film will be amazing for you. Truly a masterpiece. This movie is not for your typical American viewer but if you like unusual films that are very well played out then this film is for you. I think this is truly one of the first 5 star films in a long time. But the movie is very long so get ready. Lol

The movie was okay. The 1957 version version was better! I kept getting lost in some parts, because most of the stuff they were talking about had nothing to do with the case. The movie is about a boy in the Chechen War accused of stabbing his foster father and all but one man vote guilty. He starts to turn things around though when he convinces some people that the case did not seem as clear in the courtroom. One of my favorite russian directors star and direct this film; Nikita Mikhalov from Burnt by the Sun. This movie was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. I thought it was a very surprising ending. However, it is almost 3 hours long and it is in a foreign language with english subtitles. I wouldn't recommend it to people that don't like slow-moving movies. I'll tell you one thing right now! You're eyes and your a*s would get tired. But otherwise, it is worth seeing.

Excellent
