Plot Summary
Based on a headline-grabbing incident in the U.S., sister directing duo Delphine and Muriel Coulin’s provocative debut feature - which they also co-wrote - follows the fallout in a sleepy French coastal town of Brittany, when a group of 17 teenage girls from the same high school all decide to become pregnant at the same time, an act at once unexpected and incomprehensible to the adults and the boys in their world.

Fresh: The movie takes you inside the dreamy collective mentality of bored, mildly rebellious girls who look with horror at the lives of their mostly working-class parents.
Fresh: Impressively, the rookie scribe-helmers' sense of equilibrium is unerring and also surprisingly subtle.
Rotten: The film suggests a state of grace between childhood and adulthood, but the narrative feels increasingly tentative, and the characters remain opaque - "local divas," in one teacher's estimation.

Eh
I did not enjoy this movie at all. Was very slow and I just found it to be soo bad. I was expecting a lot more from this film and when you go in with high expectations a lot of times you'll find yourself let down. I couldn't even finish watching it because it was so boring to me.

In spite of a promising premise, 17 Girls leaves you with the impression that you have learned very little about the lives of the girls that we meet. The performances are one note. The script certainly does not help the actors flesh out their performances ad there is very little introspection. As a viewer you are left wondering if the moments in between what we see on film and more interesting than the film itself.
