Plot Summary
A Parisian getaway becomes anything but romantic for a high-strung New York couple in 2 Days in Paris. Adam Goldberg (Zodiac) is Jack, an anxious, hypochondriac-prone New Yorker vacationing throughout Europe with his breezy, free-spirited Parisian girlfriend, Marion (Julie Delpy, Before Sunset). But when they make a two-day stop in Marion’s hometown, the couple’s romantic trip takes a turn as Jack is exposed to Marion’s sexually perverse and emotionally unstable family, and her coarse temperament with cab drivers and her ex-lovers… her many ex-lovers. Culture-shocked and ego-bruised, Jack finds himself hoping that their relationship can survive as their love is revealed in surprising ways.

Fresh: A movie that is as acutely painful as it is acutely funny.
Fresh: Bright and engaging a great deal of the time, but it ends up exhausted.
Fresh: Delpy does the old-[Woody] Allen thing a lot better than most, and does for Paris what Allen did for Manhattan, making it look newly romantic even to those who have lived there all their lives.
Rotten: For almost an hour, Delpy chases the spirits of Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell; why, then, an ultimate fondness for Ralph Bellamy?

comme la vie
i think you have to have had both an american and a european experience to appreciate this film - and i say that in a good way; i think it takes a real understanding of the cultural differences, which are portrayed really well here, but are sort of "in-jokes" that you can only get perhaps (perhaps... peut etre) if you lived in Paris AND America both... for me, having done both, i found this film very funny and very accurate. He is not the "dumb" american, no more than she is the "rude" parisian. they are just a couple, lost and lost in the world but this to me is some relationships portrayed as they truly are and in this way, i appreciate the honesty it took Delpy to write this film and her acting here is superior... i didn't know she could act so well (again, not a diss... i always knew she was beautiful, but i did't know she had that real "chops"). She's good... he's good. It's an interesting film about a real cultural divide that DOES exist, so it is wholly honest and totally funny, in my view. see what you think - i think this is an either/or kind of film. You'll either love it, or you'll hate it. Maybe preview it first...? Check out some other reviews... Cheers - et a bien tot!
Very delicable
If you are European, you might love this movie - I did. If you are American and trying to understand those who are not, you will hopefully find this movie interesting just please don't take it too literally. I should also add that Julie Delpy is VERY talented both as an actress and as a director. The actor plays an American schmuck quite well also. If you prefer Hollywood productions with feel good endings, steer clear.
my new favorite movie !
great movie. not too long or too short. realistic. smart. hilarious. so funny to see Parisian culture through an American's eyes. love Delpy's character, so genuine. funniest (relationship) fight scene ever. i laughed..out loud..often. my kind of movie. really great.
