Plot Summary

Lifelong mobster Charly Matteï (Jean Reno, The Da Vinci Code, Léon: The Professional) has turned a new leaf and left his past as an outlaw behind him. With his former business firmly under his oldest friend’s control, Charly has spent the past three years living a quiet, comfortable life, devoting himself to his wife and two young children. However, one winter morning he's left for dead in the underground parking garage of Marseille's Old Port with 22 bullets in his body. Against all odds, he will not die. After his miraculous recovery, he embarks on a hunt for vengeance that takes him back into the seedy criminal underworld he thought he’d left behind forever.

Jean Reno--4.5 Stars automatically

Wow! Awesome French shoot 'em up, with very skilled directing for an action packed crime gang fight and brutality.

Reno is the only man on earth (in film) who could have played Mattai. Great bad guy hero, terrific wounded bear of a man with deep love for his family.

I enjoy these violent films done by the French, naturalistic, highly crafted and exciting, even when an ending is known.

Great cinema with plenty of double taps on the bad-bad guys as revenge is taken.

It's not just revenge, it is code of honor, and fealty between terrible criminals.
Reno has captured this genre, these characters for two decades. This is one of his very best.

I'm Being Generous

No a bad rental, but for God's sake don't buy this movie. Reno must have needed a paycheck. I am so over the sociopath with ethics after Breaking Bad, Dexter, and The Sopranos. If you are desperate rent this movie. Be prepared to be under-whelmed.

Good gangster movie

Although, the movie changed some elements of the real story, it remains largely inspired from the life of Charly Matteï, a famous french gangster left for dead in 1977 and seeking vengeance after having miraculously survived 22 bullets shot in his body. The fiction will take you into the gripping universe of the mafia in Marseille, south of France. While it has some solid action scenes, the fiction also develops interesting characters well served by a great Jean Reno in the main role and Kad Merad delivering a solid performance in an usual role for him given his history of comic characters. Overall it's a good gangster movie and I would definitely recommend it, enjoy.
