Plot Summary
4 MINUTE MILE is the inspirational story of Drew (Kelly Blatz), a high school student struggling to overcome the inner-city surroundings that threaten to imprison him. After getting manipulated into running drug payments to a local dealer (Rhys Coiro), Drew has nowhere to turn in a family with a deadbeat older brother (Cam Gigandet) and an overwhelmed single mom (Oscar-winner Kim Basinger). His only outlet is track practice but that is taken from him as he continues down the path of his sibling; even the affections of a girl at school (Analeigh Tipton) can’t set him straight. Just as it seems hopeless, an ex-track coach with his own demons (Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins) witnesses Drew’s speed and athleticism and decides to train him to reach for more than he ever imagined possible. Together they work towards finding solace in each other but Drew’s resolve is threatened as tragedy strikes right before the biggest race of his life and forces him to confront everything that has been holding him back.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: More than one interior scene looks underlit for effect, but that's at least something else to think about as the film goes through its paces.
Rotten: A by-the-numbers tale of inspiration through perspiration.
Rotten: A sympathetic performance by Richard Jenkins does little to dispel the stale atmosphere here
Rotten: 4 Minute Mile is cobbled together with every sports underdog cliche imaginable.

Inspiring and touching movie that will pull at your heartstrings!
I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed this film. I’m not usually one for sports movies, but 4 Minute Mile has so much more to it that I think anyone would enjoy it. Great acting (newcomer Kelly Blatz was perfect in his role as Drew) and just a great overall message. I haven’t stopped thinking about this movie since I watched it. Don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but there’s one scene in particular that really got to me. You’ll know it when you see it. I highly recommend this moving film – it even made me want to start running, and I hate exercising!
Great flick!
The film 4 Minute Mile is an incredible movie with an outstanding cast. The film centers around the main character, Drew Jacobs, a young troubled track runner, and his struggle of living in a broken home. His mother, played by Kim Basinger, and his brother, played by Cam Gigandet, are poverty stricken and must do what they can to make ends meet. Drew is constantly confronted with the option of working to support his family or his lifelong passion of running track. Eventually, Drew’s neighbor, a former track star, played by Richard Jenkins, takes an interest in the young runner. In an effort to help young Jacob get into college, and in turn correct his own past mistakes, Jenkins trains Jacob so that he may earn a track scholarship. The film is inspiring and as well as motivational for anyone looking for something with depth.
A Mile to Remember!
After watching this movie I must say I was really impressed with the movie. While the run time might feel at times as though it drags on for too long, and the ending is questionable as far as plot continuity is concerned, the movie itself has a powerful message and is a metaphorically loaded film. Dark, intense, dramatic, I don’t recall a time recently where I found myself teary eyed in a film. This movie (you will know which scene I am referring to) has a tearjerker moment that you won’t believe until you see! I loved this movie, and can’t stop bragging about it to my friends, whom also are eager to go see it now.
