Plot Summary

This is a story of a young man’s no-holds-barred love affair. Tom still believes in the notion of a transforming, cosmically destined, lightning-strikes-once kind of love. Summer, the girl, doesn’t. But that doesn’t stop Tom from going after her, again and again, like a modern Don Quixote. Suddenly, Tom is in love not just with a lovely, witty, intelligent woman but with the very idea of Summer, the very idea of a love that still has the power to shock the heart and stop the world.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: An unpredictable, immensely satisfying experience, much like love itself. – Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic, Feb 10, 2014

Fresh: It's very smooth and well done; Marc Webb clearly has a solid visual eye and natural sense of pacing. – Laremy Legel, Film.com, Sep 12, 2011

Fresh: (500) Days of Summer is as close to perfect as a movie gets. A highly subjective claim? Sure, but so are all movie reviews, and this is hardly the time to get into that argument. – Simon Miraudo, Quickflix, Apr 4, 2011

Fresh: (500) Days of Summer is a classic independent film, taking a bunch of risks and trying to break as many rules as possible, yet it is in many ways a traditional ode to love, and it will leave you yearning for the opportunity to be dumped yourself. – Giles Hardie, Unknown2, Jun 24, 2010

So good!

Wow. You can't really say more than that about this movie.
But I'm going to anyway.
This movie is awesome! I usually hate it when people come out of a movie and claim that it is their new favorite. It took me years to be able to determine my favorite movie. It was tough. Yet, call me a hypocrite, when I came out of this one I couldn't help but tell everyone that it had definitely made my top 10 if not my top 3.
I highly reccomend this movie. The acting is good, the story is enchanting, and the music is amazing. I bought the soundtrack the day after I saw the movie and I couldn't stop listening to it for at least two weeks straight.
All-in-all: superb movie!

One of the Only Romantic-Comedies to Speak the Truth

Aside from the tremendous acting skills in Zooey and Joseph, the best part of this film is the reality you feel when you watch it. There's no chase to the airport, no big incident that sets the movie in motion; all there is is the truth about relationships. It is truly refreshing to see a rom-com so embedded in truth.

Simply great.

This is probably the best romantic movie I've seen since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Very original, and very funny. It is rare that I feel the emotion of a movie days after I see it, but this one did it. Almost every guy, at one point of his life, goes through what Levitts character goes through in this movie, and that's how it captures you. Also, the music is very, very good. Rent it, better yet, buy it. Seriously.
