Plot Summary

"Eminem wins by a knockout!" raves Rolling Stone, as the Grammy Award-winning phenomenon makes his feature film debut in this gripping story about the boundaries that hold us back - and the courage that can set us free. For Jimmy Smith, Jr. (Eminem), life is a daily fight just to keep hope alive. Feeding his dreams in Detroit's vibrant music scene, Jimmy wages an extraordinary personal struggle to find his own voice - and earn a place in a world where rhymes rule, legends are born and every moment… is another chance. From Academy Award winner Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential) and Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind), 8 Mile is the triumphant film Time Magazine hails as "Powerful!" and Entertainment Weekly applauds as "Electrifying and Mesmerizing!"

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Because it rejects easy victories, this may be one of the few inspirational movies that could actually inspire someone, somewhere, sometime. – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, Apr 7, 2014

Fresh: At its best, 8 Mile illuminates the culture out of which rap springs, at once an art form, provocation and survival mechanism. – David Ansen, Newsweek, Nov 15, 2011

Fresh: Despite the predictable formula, screenwriter Scott Silver wisely avoids taking the easy route every time; there are several small twists you may not expect, and the ending isn't entirely a happy one. – Christy Lemire, Associated Press, Apr 7, 2014

Rotten: The problem is Eminem himself, who has clearly been drilled by the director to play to what will have to pass as strengths: stillness, cool, control. – Peter Bradshaw, Guardian, Nov 15, 2011

shady is the best both ways

eminem pulls of one of the best movies ever. hes a great actor and rapper, maybe THE best. this movie is also one of the only movies of its kind. watch this and you won't be disapointed, especially if u like hip-hop. and when relaspe comes out, eminems gonna be the king and murder lil wayne.

Eminem is so great...

I've been paying my respects to Eminem lately, and I can't say his music isn't touching. His music is far more emotional than Lil Wayne's, and it has far more meaning. I can't wait until Relapse comes out.

its about time tht it happened
