Engaging noir tale is dark and violent; some cursing, nudity.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters feels like a bright alternate universe and something that's not just a fleeting plot device.

Another solid entry in the DCU line, Justice League: Gods and Monsters works best as an entrée into what should be a fascinating and highly entertaining series of its own. [Blu-ray/DVD]

A bold reworking and one I hope we can see more of in the future, just to hear Benjamin Bratt kick ass as Superman all over again.

Fun, quick and easily separated from the rest of the universe, Gods and Monsters is worth a watch for dedicated DC fans but is unlikely to sway any newcomers.

Audience Reviews for Justice League: Gods and Monsters

½

Gods and Monsters give itself the leg up of being entirely set in an alternative universe, with no crossovers to pre-established canon at any point. This means that there is no shoehorning of unsuitable plot points or character arcs, and instead leaves this smaller Justice League the opportunity to just tell a simple story. Michael C Hall as a pseudo-vampire re-imagining of Batman was an inspired choice, and the new origin stories are all fascinating twists for coded DC fans, without being too out of grasp for newcomers. It's just unfortunate that all the good decisions boil down to an excuse for "Fight another robot villain because I said so" for about the billionth time in an animated DC venture.

Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman are each given a new incarnation in this Justice league feature. The villains have framed the heroes in an embassy massacre, they must work together to find out who's behind this conspiracy and stop them.

I enjoyed the adult swim quality and fast paced action but some of the changes to the characters were too radical for my liking. Overall, still quite enjoyable.

Excellent alternate reality tale. DC beats Marvel at animation every time.
