The Lone Ranger (2013)

Critic Consensus: Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp make for an appealing pair of leads, but they're not enough to make up for The Lone Ranger's bland script, bloated length, and blaring action overkill.

This isn't the complete disaster of Wild Wild West, but that's only because none of the $250 million was spent to turn Kenneth Branagh into a mechanical spider.

Well, it sure was a strange and subversive Fourth of July gift Disney decided to give the country.

The weirdest summer blockbuster to come down the pike in eons. I have no idea who this movie was made for, but I'm glad that I saw it.

A horrifically boring movie that feels like a long lost sequel to Wild Wild West (1999), another big-budget western disaster.

...funny, exciting, heartfelt, and just full of real joy and great entertainment.

If The Lone Ranger was a character in The Lone Ranger, it'd be the villain.

Audience Reviews for The Lone Ranger
The Long Ranger and Tonto battle a corrupt railroad developer.
For an action film, The Lone Ranger is mostly boring. Sure, some of the action sequences are well-choreographed, and the scenes hold a modicum of suspense, but the plot is so predictable that it fails to hold more than a little interest. What is more, the film is a mixed bag of realism and a Cliff's Notes version of Native mysticism. It's not an overtly racist film, but its treatment of Natives and Tonto speaks of ignorance rather than cruelty.
Johnny Depp plays Jack Sparrow without the British accent, and Armie Hammer is about as bland as they come.
Overall, this film is a poor effort from all involved.

Well....what can I say. I DO NOT think that Johnny Depp was miscast. I think that he was the best part of this silliness. In my opinion, it was the way this entire movie was presented that made it a silly mediocre film. I was a big fan as a kid of the original Lone Ranger, so I was very excited to see how they did this. It wasn't horrid, but it wasn't great, either. Plenty of things to laugh at, or with, though...

"The Lone Ranger" takes it's source material (somewhat) from the classic television series, and for the most part, this film fails miserably on all levels. Sure it's action sequences may be fun to watch, but the writers honestly had too much material to work with and it seems like too much is going on all at once, while still feeling very slow. Johnny Depp plays the same persona as always, and Armie Hammer just feels miscast in every way. This film has been bashed by critics and normally I would give sympathy to the filmmakers, who in this case have done a technically good job, but it is just one mistake after another and one cliche after the next. "The Lone Ranger," with better direction, better casting, and a much better script, could have been fun, but it's one of the most forgettable films in recent years.
