This was very well written..

It was so inspiring and I loved how she shares about her start from Broadway, the tips she gives to others and most of all the honesty and positivity of it all.

I'll admit that I was at first very hesitant to take the time to read this. Though I am a big fan of both Glee and Lea Michele--and celebrity memoirs are definitely my guilty reading pleasure--the majority of celebrities tend to be preachy, self-absorbed, and often impart very little in the way of practical wisdom/advice to us real world folk. Fortunately, Brunette Ambition was quite the opposite. In this memoir/how-to/style guide, Lea Michele made everything extremely relateable to her fan base. She discussed her upbringing as a child stage actress and the lessons on professionalism, patience, rejection, and self-care that she learned very on, and these pearls of wisdom are applicable to pretty much every career (from cashier to retail manager to CEO of a Fortune 500 company). I appreciated that, when discussing her style, she kept it simple. Many celebs rattle off a litany of expensive brands that make you feel downright destitute in comparison, while also making you wonder if they're being sponsored to "recommend" such brands. But Lea's advice basically stressed quality over quantity. She's a self-proclaimed "anti-hoarder" who hates an overwhelming amount of clothing options, so she recommends shopping only twice per year--for the essentials like underwear and socks,a sensible handbag, and traditional pieces that will be of use for awhile--while cleaning out your closet and giving away the items you will no longer use in the meantime. Lea also stressed the importance of taking care of yourself physically and mentally and included several recipes for healthy meals, her typical meal plan for any given week, her exercise routine, bath soaks, hair masks, and other things that she loves and regularly uses to pamper herself. Once again, no name dropping of expensive brands.Read more ›

I have been looking forward to Lea's book since I first heard about it. I grabbed mine at Target which came with little lifestyle cards in the back. Very cute touch.

I bought the book yesterday and finished it today. A quick read. Not because it was too short or anything but because it sucked me in just that much.

The book is not a stereotypical autobiography. The first few chapters really focus on her childhood and rise to fame. You really get to know about her past, her family, and friends. The rest of the book is about getting to know her as she is right now. She is pretty much like the rest of us, just famous. She is very down to earth. That is a quality I LOVE in celebrities. No matter the fame or the money, she is still down to earth, normal, & true to herself. Qualities that I feel are not always present in Hollywood. I, myself, live in Los Angeles and have seem some celebrities act awful.

She also discusses the importance of quality over quantity. She really nurtures her relationships with her family, friends, and peers.

The book includes recipes as well as fitness, style, hair, and makeup tips from her stylist team. I also try to be very organic and healthy with products I use so it was exciting to see some homemade beauty recipes trickled in. :-)

It was so refreshing to read a book written by a celebrity that is not "ME ME ME". She genuinely wants to pass on and share her life experiences and knowledge to us.

I would recommend this book to anyone. I loved it. Well done, Lea & thank you.

This book is completely awesome, and it just makes me love Lea Michele even more. The tips, the pictures, and the stories just all make it wonderful! And the part about Cory at the end was beautiful.

I'm a woman of middle age who absolutely loved the first few seasons of Glee (when it became a bit repetitive, I stopped watching it as frequently). Lea Michele's character on Glee is great for having both successes and failures, and you route for a person like that. So it makes Leah more likeable because whether it's true or not, you would think she's similar in character as Rachael Berry. I did think this book was a bit fluffy, surprised that I read it so quickly. Leah is very focused on her career, easy enough to do when you are single and childless. Let's see how life unfolds should she decide on marriage and children when that make-up and getting your hair done and cooking and working out ends up taking a backseat to others. Nevertheless, she's extremely talented; who wouldn't want a voice like hers.
