More About the Author
David Rosenfelt, a native of Paterson, New Jersey, is a graduate of NYU. He was the former marketing president for Tri-Star Pictures before becoming a writer of novels and screenplays. "Open And Shut" was his first novel; "First Degree," his second novel, was named a best book of 2003 by Publishers Weekly. He currently lives in Southern California with his wife and 35 dogs.

How did a single non-pet owning male end up on a cross country trip with 3 RV's, 25 dogs and 9 volunteer helpers? He met the right woman and his life was never the same. David's wife Debbie is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to dogs. Together she and David have saved 4000 dogs and they've only just begun.
I am very enthusiastic about this book because it has everything. It's a love story between David and Debbie and every dog they've ever met. It's funny because David looks at life with a sense of humor and its filled with stories of many well-loved pets who are allowed and encouraged to have their own personalities. In the Rosenfelt house, Dogs Rule - which is just the way it should be.
To top it off, its the story of a journey few would attempt - a move across country with 25 dogs. With a lot of planning and help from some extraordinary volunteers, it was accomplished with no trauma to the dogs. To David Rosenfelt, maybe but the dogs are now blissfully enjoying life in Maine.
Included are pictures of the pets. They're all beautiful but Wanda and Benji especially crack me up. For pictures of the trip itself, go to Woofabago 2011.
One side note, while David is on a book signing tour, Debbie found 2 more dogs to rescue. I love that woman!!

I have read all the Tara books and have both the Kindle and hardback versions so I had to try this one. The same writting style made this book an enjoyable read.... made me laugh, cry and confirm that I am not the crazy dog lady my husband thinks I am with only five dogs (four goats - all rescues) in my life. We call it a "5 dog night" as our bed is cozy with noses and tails. We have 2 shihtzus, one rat terrier (all terrier for sure)a blue tick healer springer spaniel mix (the crazy one) and a mutt of unknown origin who was abandoned by his people who moved out of their house and left the dog. I would have signed up for that road trip in a heartbeat given the chance. God bless them for the love and caring they provide these dogs. Any dog lover will LOVE this story. If I'm ever in Maine - we live in Washington State so odds are against me - I'd love to visit. Get this book you won't be dissappointed.

I'm not even completely finished with the book yet but I love it and wanted people to know to buy it. David Rosenfelt is one of the funniest most genuine authors I have ever read. I love his books and Dogtripping is one of my all time favorites.

As a fan of Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series, I couldn't resist this non-fiction "woof-a-bago" adventure. I was well rewarded and read it in just a couple of sittings. I must admit at the start that I am a "cat person," but I fell in love with all of the dogs this wonderful man and his wife have brought into their lives. While the book is about the trip from California to Maine - zany, laugh-aloud funny, heartwarming - he intersperses the journey with chapters about individual dogs, how they came to be with them, and what great dogs they are. I don't think he's met one that wasn't.... Also, Rosenfelt writes about his feelings about rescue organizations, shelters, animal horders, euthanasia, all without ever preaching or sounding smug. He has a wry tone and pokes fun at himself at every opportunity. I can't say enough about the pleasure this book gave me. There are a lot of good people in this world, but David and Debbie Rosenfelt have got to be among the best. Buy this one for yourself and for every animal lover you know!

David, and his wife decide to move their dog rescue from California to Maine. Eleven volunteers, three RVs, and 25 dogs later they are on their way. Dog Tripping tells the story of their cross country adventure. Also included are stories of some of the dogs they rescued. It was a fun book that ended all too soon.
It was kind of hard to read about the conditions that some of the dogs were rescued from. But it was still a book any dog lover would enjoy.

This is a wonderfully told humorous road trip story about a couple, the author David Rosenfelt and his wife Debbie, plus 11 true friends who helped them moved their 25 rescued dogs of various lineages from Orange County, CA to near Damariscotta Lake, Maine using three rented RVs in 2011.
As the author says early in the story on page 4, "[T]he difference between an ordeal and an adventure is attitude. That's how I knew I was in for an ordeal."
In self-deprecating and humble style the author states that 25 is probably the smallest number of dogs they had at any one time in the ten years prior to their cross country adventure, with 42 being the maximum number and 31/32 being about the average. He also gives full credit to the other males in his party as being real men, while he generally portrays himself as a bit of a nebbish in the vein of Woody Allen.
The author and Debbie started a non-profit dog rescue called the TARA Foundation in honor of Debbie's best dog of all time, a golden she still longs for. David and Debbie keep Tara alive by writing her into his Andy Carpenter series in which Tara started off as a 7yo Golden and elven years later has only aged to 9yo. The author says she will never get serous sick or hurt in his novels, nor will she ever die, but she may miraculously get younger if it suits him. :)
An idea of the clean type of humor told throughout the book is the experience the author had in trying to book some rooms outside Salt Lake City prior to the move back East. When the motel clerk told him there would be a 50.00/pet cleaning deposit for each dog under 30 pounds and 75.Read more ›
