Review

Raves for Nicole Knepper

“Nikki has a way of connecting and resonating with moms that is almost magical and pretty much guarantees a bestselling book.”—Jill Smokler, author of Scary Mommy

“Nikki Knepper is one of a kind. She’s a smart, compassionate, gritty, insightful, potty-mouthed, hilarious, fearless, silly, and generous spirit every bit deserving of the enormous online platform she’s grown. I’m a proud fan of Moms Who Drink and Swear, and I can’t wait to read what’s next!”—Julie Haas Brophy, author of Sh*t My Kids Ruined: An A–Z Celebration of Kid-Destruction

“As a mom who despises ‘mommy blogs,’ discovering Nicole Knepper’s writing was almost as sweet as the first time my son let me use the bathroom without him. With her biting sense of humor, Nicole has struck a chord not just with parents, but with anyone interested in answering life’s biggest question, ‘What the fuck?’ She's all at once insightful, touching, and hilarious.”—Natalie Slater, author of Bake and Destroy

“I had this idea in my head about what mommy and daddy bloggers were all about—posts about how wonderful raising children and life with little ones and how every day of parenting was a magical gift, like a glitter-filled fart from a baby unicorn. I wanted nothing to do with those lies. Then I found Nikki and the Moms Who Drink and Swear blog. She is honest about raising kids, being an adult child now in charge of children, and everything that comes with the parenting gig. Nikki is the parent, and writer, I want to be. Plus she smells nice. Not as nice as glittery unicorn farts, but nice.”—Chris Illuminati, author of A**holeology: The Cheat Sheet

“Nicole Knepper has that rare combination of laugh-out-loud humor and genuine intelligence that makes her writing a go-to for parents who need to feel like someone 'gets them.' She invites everyone into the crazy club of parenthood, promising to reassure stressed-out parents that their fears are normal, while allowing them to laugh at their secret thoughts. It is hard to be sensitive and hilarious at the same time, but Nicole truly is both.”—Carrie Goldman, author of Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher and Kid Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear

“If Facebook existed when Erma Bombeck was alive and writing bestsellers, she would be Nikki Knepper. Maybe with less drinking and fewer f-bombs.”—Bill Adee, VP Digital Media, Chicago Tribune Media Group

I laughed out loud reading this.

I'm sure there will be mothers shocked and dismayed by all of this but like Nicole says in the book "they can suck it."

Very well written, honest and hilarious!

Well Amazon, thanks for the email encouraging me to rate my own book. I love my book. It's a love story about my family and friends. My mom thinks it's the best book ever written and she has zero bias, right?

Finally, an educated and intensely loving woman who is also blisteringly honest and HILARIOUS. Motherhood will eff with your thoughts, moods, relationships, bank account and body and Nicole is a voice that says it all in a singularly unique way. I'm sure there will be mothers shocked and dismayed by all of this but like Nicole says in the book "they can suck it." If you've ever felt alone as a mother because you thought loving your children would cause you to tip over into insanity then this is the book for you. I laughed so hard and cried a little too. Just the read a good mom needs. P.S. Amazon wouldn't let me swear in a review about a book about swearing. This makes me giggle.

Read the title, people! If you're expecting anything other than swearing and drinking and other raw activities, you just don't get the English language. The title is "Moms Who Drink and Swear" Enough said.

This book is exactly what it says it is: it's about drinking and swearing and losing your mind while still loving your kids. I think the perfect audience for this book is 30-45 y.o. stay-at-home or part-time working outside the house moms, with a blue streak that includes swearing a lot, drinking moderately, and talking about sex, poop, and stupid people.

If that's you, buy the book - you will freaking LOVE it!

I finished this book the day I cracked it open. We have similar family functions and I cried tears of laughter so hard my husband was like WTF is wrong with you? I peed my pants. Like for reals. Thanks for that Nikki!

I hate reading books. I do. The turning of the pages; the moving of the eyes back and forth- it's so tedious. That being said, this book is effing awesome. Nicole Kane Knepper tells it like it is. (At least in my house, anyway.) You should buy this book. It doesn't suck. I promise.

I couldn't wait to get my copy of this book and it did not disappoint. I have been a longtime follower of Nicole's blog and LOVE it, so I was a little surprised to find that I actually enjoyed this book even more than her blog!! (and that's saying a lot)

I'm so tired of feeling I have to live up to some unrealistic mothering standard. This is REAL talk right here about parenting. And the best part is that you can see Nicole's love for her children throughout each page. We're all doing the best we can. Thank you, Nicole, for reminding us of that in such a humorous and creative way!

I enjoy reading the authors posts on facebook and on her blog, but this book didn't do it for me. I read several chapters, skimmed a few more hoping it would get better and then turned my kindle off, disappointed. It wasn't all that funny, and the writing was very rambly. I wish I'd have spent my $10 elsewhere. A bottle of wine, maybe.

Much as I like reading reviews, I seldom make time to leave them unless a book is truly terrible. This one motivated me that much. In fact, this is only the second time in my life that I can recall throwing a book in the trash rather than donating it. There were a couple mildly amusing lines, but her style is so repetitive it was like written equivalent of listening to a big truck backing up over and over for hours.
