About the Author
ALLEN WEST was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia--in the same neighborhood where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once preached. He is the third of four generations of military members in his family. During his twenty-two year Army career he commanded troops and deployed to several combat zones. He was elected to Congress in 2010, representing the 22nd district of Florida for one term. A frequent commentator on Fox News and a sought after speaker, he lives with his family in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Michele Hickford is a writer and communications strategist. She has held senior positions at Turner Broadcasting and USA Networks, and served as Congressman West's Director of Outreach and campaign Press Secretary.

This is the American dream lived and eloquently recounted by an American hero, Republican U.S. Representative from Florida, Allen West. This is the story of a principled and uncompromising, unsung but authentic American hero. He has done the talk and gone the walk a s a conservative statesman. Here is a man who understands the root derivation of the word "republican" and stands by its meaning and convictions, notwithstanding many other "Republicans" and even "Democrats" do not know the meaning of the labels under which they campaign and "serve"!
Guardian of the Republic by Allen West explains how these conservative core values became part and parcel of West's political philosophy. It also explains why he continues to fight against all odds, so that others too can reach the American dream, not necessarily in politics or the military, as he did (West also led troops and reached the rank of Lt. Colonel), but in all societal endeavors, in commerce, the professions, and all walks of life. Here is the story of a statesman, who is willing to fight against big government and for constitutional freedoms, even if it means going against the grain of the Obama administration and the entrenched liberal establishment in politics, the media, the popular culture, and academia.

Col. West does an excellent job of tying the intent of our founding fathers toward the constitution through their exchange of letters we know as the Federalist Papers. He lets us see some of earliest upbringing which set the stage for his future leadership role. Hooray for the first book from Allen West, Patriot. Even though the read is quick,it is a very inspiring book and a road map for the restoration of America. It's the unvarnished truth and while it may be a tough pill to swallow, if we can get back on track together and be the shining city on the hill as we once were. My hope is that Allen West either run for President or he takes a position off power such as Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense.
