This is the first in a new series from Kingsbury and it is a great beginning.

The “angels walking” refers to angels on assignment on earth, walking among the people, subtly helping them to move in the direction God desires. This novel is about Tyler, a very talented pitcher in Little League and high school. His parents want him to go to college on a baseball scholarship but when he is drafted from high school, he takes that route. He leaves behind parents he has alienated and a girlfriend, Sami, who fervently believes in him.

Tyler gets in trouble working his way up through the minors. Then he suffers a career-ending injury not covered by team insurance. Homeless and nearly broke, he lands a job at a retirement home. It is exactly where God wants him to be. There he meets a woman with Alzheimer's. A woman who thinks he is her son. Her unconditional love changes Tyler's life.

There is great interest in the supernatural now. Current novels usually cover the dark side. Kingsbury gives us a glimpse of the light side of the supernatural, the very real world of angels. Hebrews 13:2 tells us we might meet angels and be totally unaware of it. That's exactly what happens in this novel. Angels look like humans when they bring the right message at the right time. Kingsbury wants us to be more aware of God's fingerprint on our lives.

Besides the importance of the action of angels, other issues are included. One is really living life. At one point Sami and her roommate go to the beach to boogie board the waves. “Look at you, Sami Dawson!” her roommate says. “You're learning to live!” Life is too short to settle for less than what God has in mind for us.

Other issues include parental approval and perfection.

Somewhere in heaven, a decision has been made. A meeting of twenty hand-picked angels with Orlon at the head was going on, with Michael in attendance. These twenty are the new set of chosen travelers - Angels Walking - for a desperate series of battles. They are compassionate angels who best understood matters of the heart. Their mission is to rescue the hearts of a very few sons and daughters of Adam - humans on the precipice of history. Two volunteered to be the first to go - Beck and Ember.

Tyler Ames is a national baseball hero, and he is making his way to the big league as a rising pitcher for the Florida minor league baseball team, the Blue Wahoos. On the night when four scouts from the Cincinnati Reds were watching him from the stands, he knew he was truly on his way to join the big leagues. He just needs to finish the game off, and he will be set for life. Nothing could stop him now, or so it seems. In a dramatic ending to the night, Tyler was mobbed not by hysterical fans but by medics as he writhed in pain. The name on one of the medic's uniform caught Tyler's attention. A brand new medic named Beck.

Samantha Dawson has moved on in life. After Tyler left her on the lurch, Sami knew it was pointless waiting for Tyler to come to his senses. He had left her behind. She is now working as an assistant for the prestigious Finkel and Schmidt Marketing Firm in Santa Monica, California. Sami is dating a man named Arnie for the past three years, a man with political ambitions, a dream to become the President one day. But when Sami's Google feed caught the news headlines - Tyler Ames Suffers Season-Ending Injury - her heart almost skipped a beat. The news brings back fond memories of not Tyler but of the girl that she was, the girl she no longer knew.

Tyler Ames has given up those important to him, his parents and girlfriend, Sami. All in the hopes of making it to one of the big teams in baseball. Then an injury ends his career. Tyler hits rock bottom, but with the help of some special friends - all things fall into place.

Angels Walking opens with an angels meeting in heaven. What a wonderful image that was! To have a mental picture of angels meeting in heaven, planning how they might help us on earth. Angels Walking is a story of grace, forgiveness and love through a series of miracles. The story is a great reminder of Hebrews 13:2, "Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it." A look at how the Lord uses angels even today, but do we recognize them?

I write this review with tears in my eyes and my heart full. Kingsbury knows how to tell a story and pull at my heart strings. I love how she used many people and their kind acts to weave a tale of recovery for Tyler. Each Kingsbury book causes me to think. To examine my heart. I walk away from reading Angels Walking with a reminder to watch more closely for those "angels" in my life.

Angels Walking is the first in a new series and will release on September 2, 2014. I'm already eagerly anticipating the next in the series.

I was provided with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you, Howard Books and NetGalley for the opportunity.

Angels Walking

Wow! Everyone has wanted Karen to do a new series and well she has! This new series with book 1, Angels Walking has got to be one of the most amazing stories God has laid on Karens hands to write. From the first page to the last line I was so drawn into this book. This story is one that I just can't even to begin to tell you how this book touches so many places of my heart! These stores of these angels and how they are helping to serve a mission really makes you think about real events in your life that you may never have before. Then we have these characters they really became so real to me because the main character you have someone that is on top of the world then completely
Loses everything and how easy it was for people to just forget about him! Please everyone take the time to read this book! I truly hope it touches your heart like it does mine. Blessings
