From the Back Cover

Nothing is more dangerous than falling in love. . . .

When Caleb Devereaux's younger sister is kidnapped, the scion of a powerful and wealthy family turns to an unlikely source for help: a beautiful and sensitive woman with a gift for finding answers others cannot. While Ramie can connect to victims and locate them by feeling their pain, her ability comes with a price. Every time she uses it, it costs her a piece of herself. Helping the infuriatingly attractive and impatient Caleb successfully find his sister nearly destroys her. Even though his sexual intensity draws her like a magnet, she needs to get as far away from him as she can.

Deeply remorseful for the pain he's caused, Caleb is determined to make things right. But just when he thinks Ramie's vanished forever, she reappears. She's in trouble and she needs his help. Now Caleb will risk everything to protect her—including his heart. . . .

Loved the story and the characters!

In the beginning it felt a bit forced and seemed to move a bit too quickly, in my opinion.

After the first few chapters, I just started skimming. It was stupid and boring at the same time. I think that it could have been a good story but . . . for one thing, the main characters decide that they love each other in about a minute. Granted, this is romantic suspense, but the main guy meets the girl, doesn't see her for a year, feels guilt about how he treated her, sees her again, loves her. Boom. Book over. There is no characterization to either main character. There is nothing except the mystery. He is rich and she is psychic. That's about it. The main lead has two brothers and a sister, I'm assuming to set up future books, but they're given so little time I have no interested in reading their stories. Second, it's supposed to be romantic suspense with this psychic edge. The psychic part doesn't bother me -- I think that her KGI book with the psychic girl and the army brother was my favorite book. This, however, was just ridiculous. There were so many things left out. The killer has a hold on the girl -- how? why? when? The backstory with her saving someone that he was killing and him stalking her from then on out . . . ok, he knows where she is at all times but doesn't physically come after her during that time? The one time he gets close enough she runs off. Literally, she is running. He has no car? But, she thinks he lets her go just to . . . play with her? GIve her a lead so he can mentally stalk her again? Ok, sure. Then, he's able to get into the mind of Caleb. Makes total sense, right? Keeping a hold on two different people at one time? Sure.

I don't know. I really used to enjoy Banks' KGI series but those have really gone downhill for me and now this as well. Either her writing style has changed or my reading habits are different, I don't know. I do know I'm not enjoying her books anymore.

Clearly Ms. Banks is a talented author, but lately her books have been lacking the polish/development I've come to expect. If you’re a longtime fan, be sure to read the sample before purchase- had I done so, I would not have purchased. The plot has potential, but is totally ruined by the characters themselves- it is truly remarkable how unlikable each and every character is- not a single redeeming quality among the bunch. For a couple of chapters I held out hope that the storyline would improve, but it went downhill pretty quickly. In the past I've purchased Ms. Banks’ books sight unseen, unfortunately, I'll never do that again.

Maya Banks hits our hearts once again in KEEP ME SAFE, the first novel of her new “Slow Burn” romantic suspense series about the lives and loves of a family of brothers who own a security business. In KEEP ME SAFE, we meet Caleb Devereaux, a wealthy, well-connected businessman, whose younger sister has been taken hostage. In a departure from her more recent work, Ms. Banks introduces a paranormal element into the story in the form of Ramie, a “touch sensitive” whose ability to touch items and feel the pain of others enables her to locate victims. Caleb and Ramie search for his sister, and the drama unfolds. A mix of the paranormal, romance, suspense, mystery, erotica, and a serious psychopath who has a devastating impact on Caleb and Ramie make this book a big bite to swallow. Ms. Bank’s usual formula of dominant alpha male, who falls quickly in love with a submissive but spunky female, is stretched a bit thinly by the added emotional and physical stresses caused by the various other elements of the novel. Even so, Miss Banks writes heart-tugging characters whom we want to see find their HEA, and although there is damage at the end of this story, we let the author convince us that love does conquer all. The dual points of view, as the story is narrated alternately by Caleb and Ramie, is a very positive aspect which allows additional perspective and which the author employs well in many of her novels. Hopefully the next story in the series can balance the dramatic elements a bit more evenly. The second in the series, IN HIS KEEPING, publishes on 1/6/15; the third, SAFE AT LAST, is due out on 3/10/15. I have both on pre-order; since Colters’ Lady, I have been a tried and true fan of Maya Banks’ character-driven romances.

Five stars are never enough for Maya Banks' novels. Try ten stars! If you haven't read her novels, start here and then go back through her other series and then read them again. "Keep Me Safe" is riveting and beautiful. Can't wait for the next books in the series (already pre-ordered).

Another book by one of my former favorite authors that is all about what the hero and heroine are feeling. That's usually fine, but in this case just like in the last KGI novel, it's rehashed over and over and over. It is a total drag and I found myself skipping pages and then sections. this shouldn't even be considered a full length novel since it's so repetitious. I hate to slam a book, but this is another example of a book that should have been a novella.

Sad to say, DNF. I reached 3/4 of the way through and couldn't force myself to keep going. Generally, I really like Ms. Banks' work but this is the exception. I have no issues with her writing abilities or the editing on this one; even the concept had great potential.

These are my issues: zero chemistry, zero character development and rushed, unbelievable, sequence of events. I was constantly rolling my eyes. Ramie vacilates from wanting to lie down and die to wanting to "fight" for a relationship with a man she hasn't seen in a year....after only having met and spent maybe 10 min with him.

Caleb is burdened. Burdened for not protecting his family or the wonan he fell in love wth, after knowing for 2 days. *Scoffs*.....the angst these two feel is overwhelming.... overwhelmingly overdone, that is, there's a lack of balance to make the potential for romance credible.

The supporting characters are brought in for a change in conversation....after all Ramie needs to take a break from the intenseness of her situation and Caleb needs to take command like the leader he is portraying 😊

Caleb's family and security could have really added much needed depth to this story. Instead we get random ramblings and a set up for part two of the series.

I really wanted to like this one but I hated it instead. I wish I had an old-fashioned paper gcopy instead of the e-book. I would really enjoy flinging this one physically in the recycle bin.
