More About the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Susan Mallery has entertained millions of readers with her witty and emotional stories about women and the relationships that define their lives. She has published more than 100 romance and women's fiction novels, beginning with two books the same month when she was just out of college. Her books have spent more than 120 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list and have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestsellers list, statistically tied for #1 (THREE LITTLE WORDS, a Fool's Gold romance). Known for her keen insight into human nature and her humorous take on life, Susan Mallery has been described by RT Book Reviews as "in a class by herself!" and was featured as a Red Hot Read in Cosmopolitan Magazine. In 2013 and 2014, four of her books were named each year to Amazon's "Best Book of the Month" list.

With a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Susan is one of the few writers who can understand her royalty statement. She went on to get a Masters in Writing Popular Fiction and has extensively studied story structure in screenwriting courses, though she has no plans to write for the screen. Her goal, always, is to give readers a story that will move them, populated with characters who feel like real people.

Booklist says, "Novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and Publisher's Weekly calls her prose "luscious and provocative." Susan appreciates critical praise, but she values praise from her readers even more. She credits her successful career to the loyal readers who rush out to buy each new book on the day it's released.

With the advent of ebooks, Susan's career has soared even higher, and her books make regular appearances on both print and ebook bestsellers lists. She has embraced the Digital Age with a robust website (www.susanmallery.com), an active presence on Facebook (www.facebook.com/susanmallery) and a free Susan Mallery app for the iPhone, iPad, and Android devices (www.mobileroadie.com/apps/susanmallery). At www.foolsgoldca.com, she also provides bonus content such as after-the-happily-ever-after updates for the Fool's Gold romances, her most popular ongoing series.

Born and raised in California, Susan lives with her family in Seattle, where she survives the dreary days of winter with the help of a "happy lamp" and plenty of coffee.

I don't know whether to blame Harlequin, the publisher, or Susan Mallery, the author, but someone is responsible for this bait-and-switch novel. Never mind the current title, The Christmas Wedding Ring, or the publication date of 2014...this is a revised text of The Wedding Ring Promise, which was published in 1998. I have no problems with revising, expanding, rewriting, editing or reissuing novels. I have bought different versions of the same title from several of my favorite authors, for various reasons. But the reader is entitled to know that a "new" book is actually not new at all, and this information is only found inside the book.

Apart from that deal-breaker, this book is a low-level romance. Susan Mallery is a formulaic writer, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but anyone who wants some edginess or challenge in their romances had better look elsewhere. Her more recent books (say, in the past decade) are clearly superior to this mild offering. The hero is constantly referred to as bad and dangerous, though he doesn't show any signs of it. In fact, apart from an impoverished upbringing, he's a talented, intelligent, caring and hardworking man (now wealthy, of course, as heroes tend to be) and fits the requisite heroic description of tall, dark and handsome. Molly, the awkward teenager with a crush, is now a woman whose adolescent acne vanished, but whose curling hair is intact, and her baby fat has miraculously transformed into lush curves. Is there the slightest question that these two stock figures will wind up together?

It's an okay book, but I'm so irate that neither the cover nor the Amazon book page show that this is a reissue that I'm taking off 2 stars for the deception.

This is a nice little book and an interesting romance. It has the added extra touch of printed Christmas trees on the inside cover - an addition that is not often added anymore in this age of cost cutting anywhere possible.

The problem and warning arises when your do open the cover, which of course you cannot do if you order online. This book gives no warning from the outside that it was published in 1998 by the same author under the name of Susan Macias. There is a page inside where Susan says Harlequin decided to reissue this book. This common policy of publishing houses and or authors is almost enough to put one off of reading romance novels and certainly off of buying them. The only hint online is that this is a "classic" Christmas story, which does not necessarily mean it is a reprint - but evidently in the world of romance novels it surely does.

The storyline takes on the interesting premises of a not so glamourous younger sister meeting up with her older sister's ex-boyfriend years later to take him up on his promise of taking her on an adventure when she grew up. Molly had always had a crush on Dylan and she needed a break from some devastating blows life had dealt her lately. We are kept in the dark about one of them for almost half the book and so is Dylan. The question is...Can Molly regain some happiness and can she ever find true love?

It's a nice Christmas time story and romance, as long as you heed and know the Christmas warning concerning this book.
A 5 star story and 1 star for deception.

REVIEW:
As a warning: this is a re-iissue of Ms. Mallery’s The Wedding Ring Promise. It even states that in the blurb so when I see that people are complaining about it being a re-issue it upsets me. But any ways. I loved this story. It was a quick and sweet read.

You know what they say about bad things coming in three’s will Molly Anderson’s week from hell fits that bill perfectly. First, she gets downsized. Second, she finds out her now ex-fiance ran off to Mexico with his secretary. And lastly, could be a matter of life or death. So what is one to do when faced with the week from hell? You find an old gift from a friend with a promise of “Whenever, Wherever, I will be there for you and talk you on an adventure”.

The last person Dylan Black ever expected to darken his door step was little Molly Anderson, who is not so little any more. When Molly comes to collect on a promise made 14 years ago he is ready. Ready to take a step away from his life and the decisions he needs to make.

I really loved Dylan and Molly’s story. While this story line might have been told many many times (Bad boy and the girl who had a major crush on him) Ms. Mallery made it feel like the first time I read that story line. I loved the drama of Molly’s week and how well Dylan deals with her ups and downs. I really enjoyed watching these two fall in love.

If you are a Susan Mallery fan and have not read this story yet I would suggest picking up a copy of The Christmas Wedding Ring and find out for yourself.

This is not a new story. It is a new release of a book that was released first in 1998. That said it is a very nice story. I love Molly who thought she was weak but was in fact very strong. Dylan Black was the bad boy who really was never very bad. From the wrong side of the tracks he has worked hard and is now a success. Even though they both have problems together they are able to put them aside while they go on the adventure Dylan promised 14 year-old Molly years ago. A very nice story.
