Review

"Only Colleen Hoover can pack that much brilliance into one novel." (Jamie McGuire #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Beautiful Disaster)

“Hoover builds a terrific new-adult world here with two people growing in their careers and discovering mature love.” (Booklist (starred review))

"A must-read book of the year! I loved every word, I felt every moment, and I will never forget this story. I don’t give out a lot of 6 star ratings (in fact this will be the first one I’ve given this year) but the truth is that this book went above and beyond. The story was powerful, the writing was stunning, and the way every single piece of it was woven together was simply breathtaking.” (Aestas, blog review)

“By the end of this book, my heart was aching and rejoicing at the same time from the countless emotions it had been exposed to. This is the sexiest, most heart-wrenching Colleen Hoover book to date—a book that shows us a brand new side of this author’s writing genius, and it is in my humble opinion, her best work thus far.” (Natasha is a Book Junkie, blog review)

“Colleen Hoover once again proves she’s a master storyteller in her best and boldest work to date.” (Vilma’s Book Blog)

“She's done it again, my friends. And to be honest I didn't think she was ever going to write something I loved more than MAYBE SOMEDAY, but I was book hung over for 2 full days after UGLY LOVE.” (Me, My Shelf, & I, blog review)

“I fell in love with this book from the very first chapter.” (Owl Always be Reading, blog review)

"Ugly Love is another hit from Colleen Hoover that will leave your heart open and exposed to the myriad of emotions Tate and Miles' story will inflict upon it.” (Lovin Los Libros, blog review)

“ Colleen Hoover has given us a story that is full of emotion.... she stayed true to her reputation of writing characters that are real and a story that is both compelling and powerful.” (A Literary Perusal, blog review)

"Colleen Hoover just demolished me. Completely and 100% blew me away…not that I’m surprised or anything because she never ceases to amaze me.... I was pulled in from the beginning…and I loved every second of it!” (True Story Book Blog, blog tour review)

"Thank you for another 'rip my heart out' excursion ... and with Ugly Love you somehow managed to do it TWICE! And I loved every bit of it!” (The Real Housewives of Romance, blog tour review)

“If you were to only read one book this year, make that book Ugly Love.... It's definitely my favorite book of all time, and that's not a phrase that I use lightly.” (Kayla’s Reads & Reviews, blog tour review)

“I LOVED this book. I stayed up until 1:00 a.m. to finish it, something I haven’t done in ages.... Ugly Love was a riveting page-turner that I couldn’t put down.” (Reading Books like a Boss, blog review)

“Colleen is an artist. She has this uncanny ability to take normal, everyday words and somehow turn them into the most beautiful poetry I’ve ever read. The beauty of her lyrical writing style made me teary-eyed countless times. She can take something so simple and make it so powerful.” (Nestled in a Book, blog review)

“Colleen Hoover does it again. She always creates a story that gets under your skin and hits you right in the heart. Ugly Love was no exception. Miles and Tate have a very intense story to be told and only Colleen Hoover could do it justice.” (Readers Live a 1000 Lives, blog tour review)

“I’m not sure my heart will ever forget this book. Incredible read!!!” (Flirty and Dirty Book Blog, blog tour review)

“Colleen Hoover has done it again. Her words have wholly altered me, mind, body, and spirit. I can’t explain what I’ve done or where I’ve been the past few hours, and the only thing that is in my mind is WOW.” (The Scarlet Siren, blog tour review)

"Ugly Love carries the kinship of stellar writing, (poetry, really), searing emotion, and a story that hits you in your very core.” (I Heart Big Books, blog tour review)

"I LOVE everything and anything that this woman writes…This is everything we come to expect from Ms. Hoover and SO MUCH more! You know when you come across a book and you don’t know what to say about it other than that you loved it and it was amazing?! Well thats how I feel about Ugly Love. JUST READ IT! TRUST ME!” (Shh Mom’s Reading, blog tour review)

From the Author

Colleen Hoover is the author of five New York Times bestselling novels. Her first series was published in 2012 and includes SLAMMED, POINT OF RETREAT and the companion novel THIS GIRL. Her second series, published in 2013, includes the #1 NYT's bestseller HOPELESS and the companion novel, LOSING HOPE. She has released a free novella, FINDING CINDERELLA, as a thank you to her readers for their continued support. The novella is a companion to her Hopeless series, but can be read as a standalone.

You can follow Colleen on Instagram @colleenhoover if you want to watch her pointless, random videos. You can also follow her on TWITTER, but she rarely tweets anything worth following. You can also find her on her blog at colleenhoover.com or on her very active Facebook page at facebook.com/authorcolleenhoover where she loves to give away free stuff when her husband isn't looking.

More About the Author

Colleen Hoover's love for writing began in 1985 when she was five years old. Her first story was titled "Mystery Bob" and was a huge hit with her mother, who was really good at faking interest.
Colleen continued to write short stories for friends and family until December of 2011, when she decided to write a long story she titled, "Slammed." She self-published SLAMMED to Amazon in January, 2012 and it hit the NYT's bestsellers list in May, 2012. She has since signed with Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, and now has six NYT's bestsellers. Colleen prefers to be called a writer, as the term "author" still terrifies her and makes this feel like a job with expectations. She doesn't work well under pressure and hopes writing will always remain fun and exciting.
Colleen's newest novel, UGLY LOVE, releases August 5th, 2014. She is currently working on a new novel, CONFESS, which she is writing as fast as she can before she wakes up from this crazy dream.

You can follow Colleen on Instagram and Twitter @colleenhoover. You can also find her on her blog at www.colleenhoover.com where she holds a daily book-a-day giveaway, or on her very active Facebook page at www.facebook.com/authorcolleenhoover where she loves to give away more free stuff when her husband isn't looking.

Colleen also wants the world to know that writing short biographies in third person is incredibly awkward.

Ugly Love is further proof that Colleen Hoover can write anything. Her stories are never redundant. Ugly Love is her eighth book to date, but each book is so meticulously crafted. She and her stories exemplify what a true writer is, the kind that puts every ounce of her soul into her words, who focuses on creating a beautiful story, rather than whipping out a laundry list of subpar titles at rapid fire speed. You know what you're getting with this author... quality, beauty, perfection, everything... every single time. And that is why we wait with baited breath for her every word.

"A guy folding laundry while flaunting his abs and being a pilot is seriously impressive."

Ugly Love is the story of Miles and Tate... Miles, an airline pilot who can't love; Tate, a nurse who believes she can handle that. I've loved every single male character that Colleen Hoover has ever thought up, but there was something about Miles right away that grabbed me. Maybe it was his dark, brooding, quiet personality. Maybe it was his tall, sexy demeanor that captivated me. Maybe it's the walls he puts up that I felt compelled to see torn down. Likely, it's all of that. From the very first time we're introduced, I knew I wanted to see this man picked apart, I wanted to understand him. Tate is a character that the reader will connect with immediately. She's the girl next door, literally. She's no nonsense, what you see is what you get. There were moments where I thought she was weak, but now I know she's just real. She does exactly what any woman would do in her situation. The situation being Miles Archer.

His eyes focus on mine for several seconds. "Don't ask about my past," he says firmly. "And never expect a future.

Perfection. Absolutely amazing and there aren't enough stars to rate this book. It was an honor to get the chance to read an advanced copy, and I'm still thinking about Miles and Tate's story days after finishing.

I always have really high expectations when I pick up a new Colleen Hoover book. She hasn’t let me down once, and it’s no exception with the perfection that is Ugly Love. This book wrecked me and amazed me all at once. It is powerful, sexy, mysterious, emotional & heart-wrenching. I have always said that Colleen Hoover has the best way of pulling you into her stories with her poetic writing, and once again I felt like I was in this book, living this story, with Miles and Tate. The book is told in dual POV’s with most of Mile’s chapters being flashbacks to his past. I love how the story went back and forth, because it made for a suspenseful read that was hard to put down.

I also love that she continues to write unique story lines. I have been finding it a challenge to enjoy the NA genre lately, and have been chalking it up to just a phase I’m going through. But, I think my problem is that I needed a book like this to remind me why I fell in love with this genre in the first place. It is books like this that make me love to read and want to recommend her books to EVERYONE I KNOW. The beauty that is this book just solidifies why Colleen is my absolute favorite author.

We first meet Tate, who is moving in with her brother with plans to get a new start on life – get her masters, work her butt off as a nurse, and eventually get her own place. And it’s the day she moves into her brother’s place that she has her first encounter with Miles, who is passed out drunk in front of her door.

If you were to ask me what my favorite Colleen Hoover book was, the answer was always Hopeless. Hopeless hit me in ways a book has never done before. I had the whole Joey from friends moment when I wanted to put in the freezer and keep it in time out because a book should never make you FEEL that much!!! My friend asked me while I was in the middle of reading if Ugly Love was better than Hopeless because I think she knew my love for it, and I told her she couldn't ask me questions like that. It's not fair. I told her I would give her an answer when I finished. So yeah. Just finished Ugly Love and it made me feel feel feel until I was

into a puddle of emotions. My stomach didn't hurt while reading it. My chest did.

Miles. I can't. He stirred up so many emotions for me in the end, I couldn't even concentrate. I would veer off into a thought of the previous paragraph when starting a new one and would have to start over. I was THAT into it.

Ugly Love. IT IS NOW MY FAVORITE.

Ugly
Love
Was
Tragic
Ugly
Beautiful.

Before starting my journey with Ugly Love, I must admit, I was absolutely terrified. Terrified because, based on the reviews and teasers I had already read, I knew this book would probably rip my heart out and give it back to me in pieces. My fear was justified after reading Ugly Love because my heart was indeed ripped apart, overflowed with emotion, and handed back to me as an emotionally tired and aching mess.

When writing a book review, the book you are writing the review on should be on your mind, that’s not a bad thing, but Ugly Love has infiltrated my mind so completely that it’s almost distracting. I don’t even know what to write about or where to start because I just keep on thinking about the story, the characters, the conflict, the writing, the ugliness and beauty that is Ugly Love.

What I love about Colleen Hoover’s writing is that she leaves no emotion untouched and you feel every single word, paragraph, and page. Ugly Love was no exception. I felt everything from hate to love, and lust to absolute agony.

Ugly Love placed a huge weight on my heart and soul, which I felt, and still feel, in every fiber of my being. It’s only been an hour since I finished reading it and I’m already contemplating a re-read. THAT is how amazing this novel was.

Ugly Love is rough and gentle, tempestuous and calm. Ugly Love is like that time you went to the beach when you were younger and dived into a wave, but the wave is rougher than you thought it would be, so you get caught in it. By the time you get out of the wave your hearts pumping like you just ran a marathon, and you don’t know whether you just had the greatest thrill of a lifetime or the greatest heart attack.
