Sarah M. Eden read her first Jane Austen novel in elementary school and has been addicted to historical romance ever since. With a degree in research and a fascination with history, Eden loves delving deep into history. Eden is an award-winning author of short stories and has been a Whitney Award Finalist for her novels Seeking Persephone (Covenant Communications, 2008) and Courting Miss Lancaster (Covenant Communications, 2010). You can visit her at www.sarahmeden.com
A romance about love lost and then found again... and love in its purest form. A nice surprise was the mystery woven into the plot (I was just expecting a romance!), which really made the book into a page-turner. I also fell in love with the two main characters and really didn't want the book to end... stupendous character development. This is the first book I have read by Sarah M Eden and I have since purchased ALL 9 of her books on Amazon and am waiting for her to write more. What a wonderful new author who is destined to be among the NYT bestsellers very soon.

I first read this story years ago when it was self-published, and loved it. I had a friend in serious need of a good clean romance (and some chocolate -- you know those days), so I did what any true friend would do, and mailed her my copy. A while later, I realized that I really wanted to read it again, even though I knew how the mystery was solved. The characters were that memorable. Unfortunately, when I went online to buy myself a new copy, the author had taken all her books off and I had to wait years for them to be published by an actual company one-by-one (good for Sarah, not for me). Finally, "For Elise" is back!
Yes, I enjoyed it again. The author paced it well and included the banter that us fans of hers expect and adore. Thanks, Sarah!
I've enjoyed all of her books, especially "Seeking Persephone" (which I was smart enough to keep my original copy of). If you are looking for more books like Sarah's, try "Edenbrooke" by Julianne Donaldson. As soon as I read the last page, I wanted to turn to the beginning and start again!

I have been anxiously awaiting the re-release of this book and started reading it as soon as I saw it download with the pre-order. I read straight to the end, finishing at 4am. The writing is superb, as it is in all of Sarah's books, and the addition of a mystery (vs. just a romance) was a nice surprise! Miles is as lovable and admirable as the heroes in Sarah's other books, and the love story has a nice depth. Like Sarah's other books, the story is completely clean (no foul language, no sexual innuendo, etc.). It does have some tragic content, though, that made the story a little bit too much like watching the news and less like the break from reality that I seek when reading a Regency romance. Sarah presented the content tastefully and skillfully, but it still made the book a little more serious than I prefer. I give the book 5 stars for the excellent writing, story line, and character development. As compared to her other books and how much I absolutely loved them, I give this one 3.5 or 4 stars.

The story begins with the unexpected meeting of two long-lost friends. Miles has been out of the country for several years while Elise has been hiding in plain sight by living among the lower classes. Their reunion is strained because although Miles is overjoyed to see her, Elise appears terrified to be with him again. A great deal of the story involves Miles trying to figure out how he failed her and why she reacts to him the way she does. Slowly, Elise's past is brought to light. The tension in this story is not what is usually found in romance novels. Instead of it being between the hero and heroine, the tension seems to exist in the dread the reader feels as Elise's story unfolds. I, for one, cannot bear to read about sadistic, violent acts in romance novels. A gun shot here, a stabbing there, I am okay with. But this novel goes beyond that, and to any readers out there that are extremely sensitive to violence against women, you have been warned.
No, Sarah Eden does not go into anything like a detailed reliving of the most evil scenes involved. It is as tastefully done as anybody could wish for. The reader only knows for a fact at a certain point that this horrible thing has been done to Elise, with no details and no haunting images. But I, for one, don't wish for this kind of scene AT ALL in a romance novel. If I want sordid reality, there are millions of those around. They're everywhere. The trick is finding a beautiful love story without the sex and violence. I was shocked to find it in the last Laura Frantz series (the last of hers I will ever read) and I am shocked to find it here.

This is so much more than just a clean romance! This is revisiting the Regency in a manner that would please Heyer and Austen fans. This is a mystery that is not truly solved until the last few pages - I admit, I could not decide which of two characters was the guilty party. This is a story of friendship lost through carelessness and then given a second chance. This is romance of the highest order, built on a foundation of history and trust. I am a huge fan of Eden's books, I admit it, but I have my favorites and not-so-favorites. I think that is the mark of a good writer - not pleasing everyone all of the time, but giving us several flavor varieties to choose from. :-) For Elise is at times very sad and captures a feeling of loneliness that many of you will recognize, but it is also a tale of hope, of moving past pain and loss to look for happiness again. I cried, but I also laughed out loud. My husband kept asking me what I was snickering about. You will enjoy this book if you like the regency period and/or romances. Fantastic book!
