This is a BDSM series. It has scenes that will make many very uncomfortable. I however LOVE BDSM & erotica. Love it. So I was STOKED when I heard my favorite author was putting out a trilogy in this genre. I’ve been a hardcore Maya Banks fan forever… until the last few books—particularly this series. What the hell? Who kidnapped my beloved Maya and is putting s*** out under her name?! I was majorly disappointed in this entire series, but this book... this book was the worst of the three.
And it boils down to one scene.
One scene that… I cannot FATHOM how, of the dozen-or-so people that read this before publication, NONE thought that it warranted a disclaimer. Are you serious? I’m good with intense, boundary-pushing scenes that either advance the story or aid in character development. This scene doesn’t do either though, all it does is viciously make clear just how glaring Tate’s neglect is and how obscenely skewed his priorities are.

Again, I am all about BDSM & erotica, ALL ABOUT IT, what I’m NOT about is a sub being assaulted and raped. NO, that is NOT a spoiler. It’s a public service announcement! If this review spares ONE survivor, or the loved one of a survivor (like myself) the trauma of being blindsided by such a scene, then my supreme disappointment in this book (and series) was worth my buying and reading it. I've read dozens of BDSM books and this is the only one I've ever read where things are taken too far. After that scene it turned into a hate-read.

It is equally as repetitive as the other two, irritatingly so & the only reason I gave it 2stars is because I won't base my rating on one scene, not that the rest of the book is stellar.
Worst of all, this series is the reason that my once favorite author will be removed from my auto-preorder list.

What has happened to Maya Banks? I actually wonder whether she even wrote this trilogy or gave the job to someone else to write under her name. This book & the previous in the trilogy were so bogged down with repetition that, if all the stuff that was belabored ad nauseum was stripped away, you would be left with 30 page novellas. I really can't remember a book where I cared less about the main characters, they were so tedious.

It's always the first book that's the best and the rest are subsequently compared to our love of the original. First off I couldn't identify or even like Tate. He was a Dom, a man who was well versed in the lifestyle and he didn't see the neglect he'd done to his wife of 5 years? PLEASE. Then there was Chessy (whose very name grated on my nerves) who was tough and level headed for her friends but sappy and unsure for herself? The anniversary scene should have been fleshed out, the Scene at the House should have been fleshed out and the HEA harder to get to. I skimmed a lot and I'm not inclined to read much else from her.

This was the story I was waiting for since the first book in the trilogy. I really enjoyed the first book, Letting Go, with Joss and Dash and it did an excellent job of introducing the characters for the next two books. I wanted book two to be Chessy’s and Tate’s story because their situation was so compelling. It wasn’t obviously, but Giving In, Kylie’s and Jensen’s story was excellent and I learned more about Chessy and Tate in it. Finally, with Taking It All, I get their story.

And I didn’t like it.

Okay, I liked it, but it wasn’t the story I hoped for. I thought some of the dialogue was stilted and didn’t flow like Maya Bank’s normal writing. The scene for the anniversary dinner could almost have been lifted from another book by Banks, Stay With Me, which by the way is an excellent book. There were differences of course, but the basis was still the same.

I had a really hard time liking or believing in Tate. Even after he realized he was losing Chessy, he still was too wrapped up in his business. The scene where her life was threatened went too far. I can’t say much without spoilers, but there were other people who would have intervened to help her sooner than they did.

Even after all that, the story was satisfying. Not only did I get to see how things worked out between Chessy and Tate, but I got to see the development of the relationships between Joss and Dash and Kylie and Jensen. I feel like I have read one long book rather than three individual ones. Everything flowed together so well.

Read this book, but only if you have read the first two of the trilogy. They really do make a great story and you will like how everything works out for the three couples.

I'm not into these books at all. They are so repetitive and hard to get in to. I read the preview before I bought them but once I was able to read past 33 pages, the story drags so bad and she repeats many things over and over again. I've tried many times to try to finish the first book and I was unsuccessful. I am returning them.

I previously read the Maya Banks Breathless trilogy and it was great. I do not recommend this trilogy. It moved so slow. If you are looking for something similiar to 50 Shades of Grey, this is not it unless you like talking about having sex, talk about great it will be having sex, etc. That is all they do is talk!!!!!
