Editorial Reviews

Review

"Beautiful Disaster is insanely addictive. Beautifully sexy, beautifully intense, and beautifully perfect. Jamie McGuire has written a damn good book." —Jessica Park, author of New York Times bestseller Flat-Out Love

"Characters, backstory, goals, motivations and conflicts are a great mix of angst, crippling inner demons and harsh real life. The pace has a rhythmic beat of two steps forward, four steps back as Abby and Travis grapple with their fierce attraction. Jamie McGuire writes with no holds barred. She writes with honest reflection on young people who move through life by their own rules...The entire cast lives hard, fights hard, and certainly loves hard. Deliciously intense." (USA Today)

Customer Reviews

This is such a well written love story by author Jamie McGuire.
Cori Gilileo
She wrote a story that isn't poorly written, really, but just wasn't a book I could get into and seem to appreciate like a lot of other people out there.
Lovin' Books
A very real, classic love story, full of drama passion and romance.

"When you're around, I don't need booze or money or the fighting or the one-night stands ... all I need is you. You're all I think about. You're all I dream about. You're all I want."

There are thousands of reviews of this series already, so why must I post another one? Well, I do feel the need to say something in tribute of the one and only Travis `Mad Dog' Maddox!

But first, I did something different - I read both books together concurrently and I really enjoyed it. Abby's POV (book 1) serves as the backbone of the series and then Travis' POV (book 2) adds to it and it's such a treat to read his thoughts and feeling - to get even closer to the enigma that is Travis Maddox.
Whether you are planning to re-read or if you have not read series yet, I highly recommend you read them together in tandem. The experience was epic!

This book centers on a new college student with a hope to stay out of trouble. Of course the first thing that happens is that she catches the eye of the school "bad boy".

I enjoyed the dynamics within the first half of the book, even how the sexual tension between Maddox and Abby was sometimes unbearable.

This is not a book about perfect love, and happily ever after. Don't get me wrong, the ending wrapped everything up with a pretty little bow. However, the relationship was so raw and emotional that the rollercoaster that was their relationship became quite stressful. By the end of the book I just wanted them to stop fighting! I believe the ending was a bit hasty, and the epilogue a bit silly.

However, the plot about Abby's past is truly creative and unexpected. I am not used to books about dysfunctional and unhealthy relationships. If you are sick of Twilight harmony and love, this book encapsulates everything human about a relationship. The love, tears, sex and fights. There is a relatively good understanding of reality, with some strands of a life that most of us are unaware of.

If you like lust, illegal college fight nights, poker and of course good sex, I would tell you to take a chance on this one.

What a freaking roller coaster ride! I just could NOT put this down, and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning for 2 nights in a row to read this! Beautiful Disaster is the PERFECT title for this book, because that is exactly what Travis and Abby are...

I feel I should say that this is not typical YA, and is meant for college aged teens and adults. There's violence, sex, language, and a VERY unhealthy relationship - borderline toxic... that said, this book was fantastic. I relived some of my college experiences, and I may have cried, a bit. I look forward to reading Jamie's other books!

Six words, tree sentences: Buy it. Devour it. Love it.
And you will absolutely love it. I give you my word.

Beautiful Disaster is a heartwarming and heartbreaking, beautifully written, wonderfully told, passionate and often witty love story, that doesn't just explore the warm, sweet side of love, but also the complicated and messy side. I was so enthralled by it that I didn't want it to end.

I devoured every word of it, adored Abby and Travis (this two were truly a beautiful disaster), and I hope there will be more and more YA novels with 18 to 20 year old protagonists.

It was an amazing ride, full of great characters, exciting and sigh-worthy moments, drama, laughter, and countless emotions. Kudos to you, Jamie McGuire!

I have never bought a book from amazon with so many five star reviews that I can barely get through - the last two books I've read (well thankfully there was one good one in between) were real clunkers - how is this getting 5 stars? Is it young adult and I mean YOUNG YOUNG adult because Hunger Games, etc is considered YA but the writing is compelling and not that this book is anywhere near that synopsis wise. THis is about a girl, Abby and this guy Travis who fall in love, he is the bad boy and she is running from her fathers past but the writing is god awful and the story I guess as an avid reader (If I start a book I HAVE to finish it) I find the characters somewhat likeable but for me, its hard to articulate exactly what is wrong with the writing but some books either have it or don't and this book just doesn't have IT ...its a struggle to get through - its oddly reminding me of 50 shades of grey light for what reason I don't know there's no hard sex scenes or anything like that but its so sugary sweet - the "bad boy" is hardly bad - he's like any normal boy teen I've ever met and anyone who was TRULY bad - the thought of this Abby "taming" that type of person, in reality, is not realistic.
Maybe this is geared for 13 to 18 year olds. I just wouldn't recommend it and the sequal - ugh that would be tortuous....I feel bad writing such a poor review but the book didn't do it for me AT ALL. Needless to say I won't be reading Walking Disaster - this book was a disaster. Really
