About the Author
Colleen Hoover is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Slammed, Point of Retreat, This Girl, Hopeless, Losing Hope, Maybe Someday, Finding Cinderella, and Ugly Love. She lives in Texas with her husband and their three boys. Please visit ColleenHoover.com.
Colleen Hoover's love for writing began in 1985 when she was five years old. Her first story was titled "Mystery Bob" and was a huge hit with her mother, who was really good at faking interest. Colleen continued to write short stories for friends and family until December of 2011, when she decided to write a long story she titled, "Slammed." She self-published SLAMMED to Amazon in January, 2012 and it hit the NYT's bestsellers list in May, 2012. She has since signed with Atria Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, and now has six NYT's bestsellers. Colleen prefers to be called a writer, as the term "author" still terrifies her and makes this feel like a job with expectations. She doesn't work well under pressure and hopes writing will always remain fun and exciting. Colleen's newest novel, UGLY LOVE, releases August 5th, 2014. She is currently working on a new novel, CONFESS, which she is writing as fast as she can before she wakes up from this crazy dream.

Colleen also wants the world to know that writing short biographies in third person is incredibly awkward.
This is an all consuming book. From the first page to the last. In a way I wish ALL books were.
Such a realness to these characters that each paragraph controlled my breath. From the moments that had me laughing hard, to the ones that gripped the pit of my soul, and my favorites??? the ones that actually stopped my breathing while I experienced Holder and Sky's intoxicating relationship.
Never has an author had me literally panting when the couple hasn't even kissed yet. <deep breath> "I'm pretty sure we just broke the record for the best first kiss in the history of first kisses- without even kissing." (38%) Agreed. And since when has pinky holding brought tears to my eyes? Since Hopeless, that's when.
Without a doubt this book just fell into my top 10 list of favorite books ever. What an amazing gift Colleen Hoover has.
Her characters are real. At least you sure as heck wish they were. And lived in your house. And were your only friends. ;) I loved Sky from the 3rd sentence. Sarcasm and quick wit~ two things I can't get enough of. And Holder? Holder had me at "Hey." I dare you not to fall in love with him. Perfectly imperfect characters. And I could.not.get.enough.
May I recommend blocking off your day when you buy Hopeless... as you will not want to put it down. Not even to pee. And make sure your kindle/iPad/electronic-device is fully charged or you will sit on the floor next to the plug to read because back pain will be completely worth it. Lack of sleep will be worth it. Ignoring your children will be worth it. ;) Ok, I need to stop. But only because I need to go re-read it. Now.
<to whomever designed the cover~ LOVED it!>
**Warning ~ If you are a Slammed fan that wants to read this, please know Hopeless is of a more mature nature than Slammed and it deals with a dark subject mater.

Anyone that knows me knows I LOVE the Slammed series by Colleen Hoover with all my heart. To me that book was perfection and I really didn't think that Colleen would be able to top it. And she didn't top it. No, she double-decker ice cream scoop, hot fudge sauce, whipped cream, and sprinkles topped it.
I am once again amazed at Colleen's ability to bring her characters to life and how they can so easily get under my skin. Sky is strong, brave, but yet a broken young woman. There are many points in the story that have you wondering why something that would bother or embarrass anyone else simply doesn't faze her at all. The reality is that I love that about her. I envy her ability to take life so nonchalantly. I don't, however, envy all that she had to go through and wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. My heart broke for her in many places and I'm still not sure if it is completely put back together.
Holder is....well, Holder is scary. He's scary because he is so damn perfect. Not perfect in a flawless sort of way, because he definitely has his flaws, but perfect in a way that makes you feel protected, in a way that makes you feel secure, and perfect in a way that oozes swoon-worthy masculinity and makes your heart pitter-patter with everything that comes from his mouth. There is no poetry in Hopeless, but Holder's words felt like poetry to me.
Before delving into this book, I didn't read the synopsis and I didn't read any teasers. I simply put my faith in Colleen that she would write something that would blow me away. And she didn't disappoint. So in this review I am not going to give anything about the story away. I simply challenge you to pick it up and start reading.Read more ›

Colleen Hoover wrote about an extremely difficult subject but treated it with immense respect and delicacy that equaled a meaningful experience for the reader whether this thing has touched their life or not. I felt everything Sky felt and everything Holder felt. He was the most amazing character ever. The sex scenes were perfectly balanced and were also written with an eloquent amount of class and respect which provided the reader with a deeper respect for the characters intimate connection.
The two most poignant lessons for me from the book were these two quotes:
"Sometimes you have to choose between a bunch of wrong choices and no right ones. You just have to choose which wrong choice feels the least wrong."
"While I could sit here and feel sorry for myself, wondering why all of this happened to me...I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to wish for a perfect life. The things that knock you down in life are tests, forcing you to make a choice between giving in and remaining on the ground or wiping the dirt off and standing up even taller than you did before you were knocked down. I'm choosing to stand up taller. I'll probably get knocked down a few more times before this life is through with me, but I can guarantee you I'll never stay on the ground."
I never thought I could love a book as equally as I do Slammed but now I think I do. I "LIVE" HOPELESS!
BRAVO Colleen you did it again!
