When Richard Paul Evans wrote the #1 best-seller, The Christmas Box, he never intended on becoming an internationally known author.
Officially, he was an advertising executive, an award-winning clay animator for the American and Japanese markets, candidate for state legislature and most importantly, husband and father. The Christmas Box was written as an expression of love for his (then) two daughters. Though he often told them how much he loved them, he wanted to express his love in a way that would be timeless. In 1993, Evans reproduced 20 copies of the final story and gave them to his closest relatives and friends as Christmas presents. This was my favorite of the 3 in The Walk series. I liked reading about the history along Alan's route and it was fun to read how the author "wove" it into the story. This book was fun to read, informational and as always, a meaningful message of hope. I loved "The Road to Grace."

This story was much more in depth about what the character has been going thru. The book was absolutely wonderful, I can't wait till the next book! My favorite story was of the Polish man. I can't explain enough why I loved this book...I liked how other characters were still brought up and had contact with Alan.

Walking. Passing by scenery, meeting strangers, interacting in loving ways and in painful ways. This is the spiritual journey of a man who lost it all, and decided to take the "next step." Instead of curling up and wilting from grief, he strides forth into life to encounter something new. And he finds a great deal.
This account, while fictional, can be inspiring to all. If we allow the message of the book to penetrate us -- that there's more to life than the limiting place we find ourselves in, with all its painful memories -- we can discover a new aspect to our experiences. This is the serendipity that we encounter when we say yes to change and to movement. When we say yes to our spiritual journey, we avoid stagnation and fragmentation.
This book is highly recommended for fans of road stories, and especially for those who are interested in the metaphor of travel applied to the spiritual journey. And if you like this one, you'll love I Walked to the Moon and Almost Everybody Waved: The Curiously Inspiring Adventures of a Free Spirit Who Changed Lives.

Not quite halfway through his journey to walk from Seattle to Key West, Alan Christoffersen departs Custer, South Dakota, searching for the "hope that life might still be worth living and for the grace to accept" what he must live without.
The beginning of the leg of his journey from South Dakota to St. Louis does not start off well. A desperate woman doggedly follows him for more than 100 miles. She trails behind and shows up at every stop along the way, pleading to talk with him. But Alan does not want to listen to anything she has to say. The lady refuses to give up, even if it means she will die from dehydration or exhaustion. Through his encounter with her, Alan gains insight into how resentment can burden the soul.
As Alan continues his journey from Mount Rushmore, to Sturgis, to the Badlands and beyond, bouts of debilitating dizziness delay his progress. An elderly Jewish Polish man comes to his aid and teaches him an unforgettable lesson about freedom and the power of forgiveness.
Passing through Nebraska and Iowa, Alan reflects on the timelessness of that region's contributions to the "American cultural pot." In St. Joseph, Missouri, he is struck by the city's beautiful architecture and takes a break to soak up the atmosphere of what was the starting point of the Pony Express and the end of the line for Jesse James.
Continuing through Missouri along U.S. Route 36, Alan confirms his theory that small towns are incubators for some of the world's greatest people and ideas. He is impressed by the list of famous Americans who changed the world and whose roots began along that small stretch of American highway. This third book of the Walk Series is the best book on forgiveness I've ever read. Best book Richard has written. I couldn't put it down. My 95 year old neighbor borrowed it and she is in love with my Richard. She said she would never read another trashy book after reading Richard Paul Evans. I totally agree. His writing makes you wonder how he ever thought of that. Where did he get all this knowledge? Yet it reads on my level. I never have to repeat a sentence with Richard. It's clear the first time. He is my all time favorite author. A clean-cut, moral, family man.
They don't come any better. Get busy Richard, I want another book to read.

This is the best book on forgiveness I have read in a very long time. Richard Paul Evans works his usual magic and morality tale with a heartfelt story that takes you on a journey of discovery with the main character as he walks from one end of the country to the other.
I felt as though I were in Alan's shoes, experiencing the sorrow, wonder and transformation as each new character came into the story and impacted his life. I enjoyed reading about the history of different towns and found myself wishing I were there walking with Alan on his journey, experiencing the different places he stayed, the food he ate and the amazing people he met.
I am a huge fan of Richard Paul Evan's inspirational books and this one does not disappoint! Being the ardent book reader that I am, even I could not predict the wonderful surprise ending.
I give the book four out of five stars because it was TOO SHORT!! Now I'm going to have to wait an entire year for the next installment. Richard Paul Evans truly has a gift. His books do everything a good story should. They take you on an intensely emotional journey and impart timeless truths in an unforgettable way.
If you want to join Alan on his amazing journey through the America and her people this is the book for you.
This is for all of my blog followers, if you have never read anything by Richard Paul Evans you are missing a treat! This is book three in The Walk series; make sure you read all three in the series.
