Series: Christy & Todd, the Married Years (Book 1)
Over the past 25 years Robin has written 82 books with almost 4.5 million copies sold worldwide. To her great delight, Robin’s books are doing exactly what she always hoped to do – they are traveling around the world and telling people about God’s love. She is doing the same. Over the past ten years Robin has been invited to speak at events around the US and Canada as well as in South America, Africa, Europe and Australia. Robin and her husband have two grown children and have been married for 35 years. They live in Hawai’i where she continues to write and speak in rhythm with her life verse: “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the LORD Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Acts 20:24.
In anticipation of Robin Jones Gunn’s newest book, I’ve been re-reading the entire Christy Miller series over the past month. I enjoyed catching up with some old friends and even found a few books (Katie Weldon series) I had somehow missed. I grew up with Christy, Todd, Katie, Rick, Doug, and Tracy and they all show up in Forever with You.
Christy and Todd have now been married for a year and a half and they are being severely tested as individuals and as a couple. Christy has some news to share with Todd, but his news shakes her to her core. Their forever friends, Christy’s circle of sanity, are no longer close and the couple now has to navigate adulthood together. Will the two of them be able to come out the other side of their dark place with a stronger faith and greater love, or will all of their dreams lie shattered?
I read this book in one sitting, staying up way too late on a work night to finish it, but I could not put it down. Christy and Todd are better versions of their teenage selves, and I still felt a kinship with them. It’s nice to read a book about what happens after marriage. So many books today end at the engagement or the wedding, but most people know that marriage is hard (even those of us who aren’t married). Couples have to communicate, encourage each other, and support each other during difficult times. That’s exactly why Christy and Todd have always been so real to Gunn’s readers.

Let me start by saying, I like many others have been patiently praying and waiting for the day when we could finally find out what Christy and Todd were up to.
Sadly, I didn't know the Lord until the age of 22, but after reading the Glenbrooke series I decided to read the Christy Miller series and boy was a I blessed. It made me long for the innocent time in my life that had I known the Lord could've been a lot less painful. Christy's series was and is definitely something many young ladies could relate to whether they're from the current generation or any other. Anyhow, after reading all of the series and even Katie's I felt like Christy and Todd truly existed. If only! When I found out that there was going to be a Married years series I was stoked! RJG always exceeds whatever expectations I have on her books. :)
Even for someone that hasn't read the other books in the series, they should still be able to glean such a powerful message from this story. At times C & T's story seems bleak, I found myself being annoyed, crying, and saying, "Come on! Can't these two get a break!?" Not sure who I was talking to. LOL! My heart ached for them during every disappointment and trial. But isn't life sometimes that way? Who can say, (Christian or non) that their life is without speed bump, painful experience, obstacle, or blemish?
This book really shook my faith up and made me examine my own walk. What is my purpose? Who am I pleasing? Is my faith intact when everything else seems to have drifted away? Can I trust God, I mean REALLY trust him during the storms? Honestly, I wasn't prepared for a fiction book to do that to me right now. Then again, with all RJG's other books, I'm not surprised, she's the best author in the Christian genre in my opinion.Read more ›

I fall into the category of grown-up girls who read Christy Miller books as a teen (although I was always a little older than Christy). While I loved the Christy books, my absolute favorite of RJG's books were the Glenbrooke books . . . honestly, I would be beyond thrilled if she continued that series in any way. I was happy to know that we would get a glimpse into Christy's married years, but part of me wondered if we might be better off not knowing--? Oh, how wrong I was. This book was just amazing--honestly, one of her very best (although ALL of her books are a sure thing with me). I was pleased to see that Todd has matured immensely (although his quirky ways still remain), and Christy is someone that you would want as your best friend. The story was entertaining, and as many have said before, it definitely left you longing for the next book in the series! There are MANY unanswered questions at the end of this book. The one that I think I'm most curious about is Marti; something is going on with her, and I have a feeling that it isn't good news (but I wonder if it's the beginning of a spiritual life for her character?) I loved the spiritual lessons about trust, having faith, and being confident in what God is doing even when He seems silent (I can relate to that now, actually). RJG has such a sweet way with words. I read this on my fairly new Kindle, and I found myself using the highlight feature for the first time. If you've never read any of her books, you won't be able to stop with one. This author is an absolute delight!

This book is the next chapter in the lives of our forever friends...Todd, Christy, Katie, Tracy, Doug, Rick, Nicole and Eli.....don't forget Bob and Marti. It's great to snuggle in with a cup of tea and reconnect with old friends.
