I had to drop 1 star, not because it did not deserve 5 stars, but because it was too short.

I love Cat Johnson's books, especially her military romances, but although this book was one of her well-written, introspective jaunts into a special operative's mind, it wasn't long enough. I wanted more details about the rescue, less self-castigation over regrets "I should have stayed home" and “I should have convinced her to stay home” were oft repeated.

I wanted more about the switch between the warrior at home to capable SEAL and his team donning their "armor" and heading out to fix the problem.

Story Line: This world isn't safe. Here and especially overseas. This story should have been at least partially about well-trained people being there when it counted, but it felt like someone — an editor perhaps — had gutted the story... taking out the important bits about the training, the well-executed plans, the capable people and their years of experience. The details we got were summed up with a few sentences scattered around conversations in which we learn that a replacement for the hero would take at least 8-10 years of training and how harshly he dealt with his date with the heroine the day after sleeping with her because he is afraid to admit his feelings for her and also succumb to his father's wishes to marry her and cement a bond between to families.

Not to mention we only find out that the "negotiations" to release the hostages fell through after the team is already rescuing the women — all from the POV of the heroine.

Where was the whole "GAPS" mission preview? This book seemed to be only about how they would finally get their financing. A preamble at best. But it still would have been good to have more details on what they are capable of for future books.

Just my reader's opinion... I still really like the story enough to read it through, not putting it down until I was done.

In this second book of the Hot SEALs series we follow Zane's story. He has offered to ask his rich (estranged) father to provide the one million start-up money Zane and his SEAL buddies need to open their security company GAPS (Guardian Angel Protection Services).
Zane left behind his family and controlling Dad when he was 18 to join the Navy against his fathers wishes. But now he desperately wants the money, even if it means doing whatever conditions his Dad presents him with.
Enter Missy Greenwood.
The 25 year old girl had a huge crush on Zane back when she was a little girl & teenager - she followed him around the country club like a puppy. But Zane is five years older and he never really noticed her as a female☺.
That will change now.
He has to date - and eventually marry - this beautiful rich girl. That's his Dad's condition - do that - and you and your buddies will get your money.
But Zane asking her out comes at a very bad moment - Missy is about to leave for Nigeria. She wants to work as an englisch teacher at a school for african girls, for the nexrt three months.
Unfortunately Nigeria is not the safest place for a rich american girl to spend her time...
Zane might get his chance to meet her again sooner than he thought - but it might be not the romantic/sexy setting they both imagined....
WHAT WiLL HAPPEN TO ZANE & MiSSY?
WiLL THE TWO OF THEM GET THEiR HEA??
WiLL EVERYBODY DiE AT THE END???
WiLL THERE BE A CLiFFHANGER?
I'M NOT TELLiNG YOU THAT OF COURSE ☺

A must read if you like Cat Johnson! This book blends puppy love that grows into real passion and the excitement of a rescue by Seals that gives you goosebumps! Love that the characters from first Seal book are in this one too! It's like revisiting family that you actually like! A real enlightening look into the dynamic of someone raised by an overbearing father and how it shaped his future and made him the man he is today!

4.5 stars out of 5
I have been looking forward to this story. Remember Zane the “horn dog” I mentioned in my review of Night with a SEAL? This is his story.

I liked Zane, even when I thought he was nothing but a “horn dog,” though one HOT SEAL too. But oh, Zane turned out to be so much more than that. In Saved by a SEAL I got to find out why he was the way he was. Have you ever done something just because it was the total opposite of what your parents wanted you to do? I know I have, but Zane had this father that inspired him to take things to the very limit. I have to give Zane credit that his parental rebellion took him into one of the most dangerous groups of the military rather than jail as is often the case with rich kids rebelling against parental control.

For Zane to actually put all of that aside and approach his father to invest in GAPS (Guardian Angel Protection Services) for his buddies and comrades in arms, well that is definitely hero material we are talking about. I was so glad when Zane came to his senses and turned his back – literally – on his father and his demands for giving Zane the money. A definite cheering moment.

How he treated Missy – well we are still talking about Zane here and he had some growing and learning, about himself, to do. But he does get there. And, of course, everything works out.

I love these characters. They are interesting and have real problems that I can identify with. Even the kids born with silver spoons. The story? It held my interest too. There were sighs, cheers, gasps, oh nos, and more sighs. You won’t want to miss this. I look forward to the next Hot SEALs story now that they have their financing for GAPS - and not from Zane's father. Can’t wait to see where they are going to go next, and which of these guys gets their story.
