“I have lied for this man, stolen for him, cheated on him… and sold my soul to his with our first kiss.”
The moment I opened this book and read the first few pages, I felt that tingling sensation in the back of my neck that usually alerts me of something great about to happen, and I knew, just knew that I had come across something truly rare. And the more of it I read, the more I knew I was right—this was the most perfect piece of writing I had read this year, and quite possibly ever. Every part of this unique story is sheer genius, ever facet of it truly unexpected and utterly mind-blowing. By the end of it, I felt like my mind had been stretched so far, I needed a map to navigate back to the mundanities of regular life. Without giving anything away, I will tell you that this book is not to be taken at face value. This story is so brilliantly woven together, so meticulously assembled that nothing is accidental, everything is intentional, and your preconceptions and assumptions as a reader need to be left at the door because apart from being a phenomenal storyteller, when Alessandra Torre decides to write an epic love story, she ‘recalibrates’ the entire genre. Remember that.
“When you really love someone, you cannot walk away. No matter what they do. No matter the lies from their mouth, or the actions from their bodies, you tie yourself tightly to their sail and vow to be there through thick and thin. Let the wind blow you where it may. Even if that place is a crash. Even if that place tears you apart and kills anything good.Read more ›

Believe the blurb. You do not know this story. This story redefines unpredictability. You are virtually blind, completely clueless as to where it's going. For pages and pages, chapter upon chapter, I theorized, then second guessed myself, reevaluated, recalculated, guessed again... it's a maze of uncertainty where I constantly found myself backed into a corner, a speculation on my part of where this would all go leading me to a dead end, had me turning around and going back to the beginning to start again. Nothing adds up until it does.
A secret. A lie. This story is a perfectly ugly demonstration of how love and deceit make us do unfathomable things in the name of both. One secret catapults a seemingly perfect love story between two seemingly perfect people into a matrix of unpredictability and uncertainty. That uncertainty is terrifying. Knowing Brant has this secret that has changed the course of his and Layana's future together but not knowing what it could possibly be is gut clenching. I actually had a visceral reaction, my mind going a million miles a minute, my stomach in knots contemplating what it could be, wondering if it was something I could get past, accept. Would I want Layana to look past it, or would it infuriate me enough to want her to move on? Having nothing to go on, my mind swam with possibilities over what Brant could be hiding that would drive the story to where it went. From the cliche and all-too-obvious, to the dark and twisty and heinous, my mind literally jumped to a spectrum of possibilities. The uncertainty is perfectly terrifying.
As the blurb suggests, Layana comes to love two men.Read more ›

I can tell you already that 90% of readers are going to love this book. Like loooooove it and put it on their all time favorites list.
Do you want to know a quick trick to see if you are going to be one of them?
Here are the questions to ask yourself: Do you like soap operas? Do you adore harlequin romances? Do you consider an "awesome twist" to be finding out that the man you've been seeing is your long lost 1/2 brother or that the baby you gave up for adoption is your arch nemesis?
If the answer to those questions is "yes," then you will love this book.
It is no secret that this book has a large twist. Any review will say that. I certainly won't be giving anything away on that front. However, if you haven't caught on to the secret by the time the twist is revealed at 70%, you should check yourself for head trauma. I knew what the entire story was by 15% in, and so it was almost painful to read the next 50%, knowing we are supposed to be in the dark.
What bothered me the most about this story was the shear improbably of it. I mean, if you really think about the logistics of the story, it makes no sense. You'll know what I'm talking about when you get that far. It is just bananas that anyone would think this was realistic.
I also RAGED at the fact that Lana had unprotected sex with Brant and Lee. Moronic much, Lana?
While I wanted to give the premise of the book 1 or 2 stars, I almost ended up rounding up to three stars because of the little creepings of emotion that I felt for these characters. I have to admit, Lee wormed his way into my heart a bit, despite my knowing how manipulative and silly this book was.Read more ›
