About the Author

Wendy Wax, a former broadcaster, is the author of nine novels including Ocean Beach and Ten Beach Road. The mother of two college-age sons, she lives in the Atlanta suburbs with her husband, and is doing her best to adjust to the quiet of her recently emptied nest.

More About the Author

While We Were Watching Downton Abbey novelist Wendy Wax is a bestselling author of contemporary women's fiction exploring friendship, loyalty, self-discovery and the seemingly insurmountable challenges life sometimes presents. Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, she grew up on St. Pete Beach within spitting distance of the Gulf of Mexico. Appropriately enough, Wendy attended Sunshine Elementary School where recess and art class sometimes took place on the beach, and the highlight of every school year was the annual fish broil. Not surprisingly, some of her favorite Florida beaches were destined to become settings for her best selling fiction, including TEN BEACH ROAD, OCEAN BEACH, CHRISTMAS AT THE BEACH and her latest summer read, THE HOUSE ON MERMAID POINT.
It's hard to be a type-A personality when you grow up in such a laid-back environment, but somehow Wendy managed. Convinced that you were expected to know how to read before you showed up for school, at the age of five she forced a neighbor friend to teach her. She's been devouring the written word ever since. Books, one of Wendy's greatest treasures and best forms of escape, have had a major impact on her life and on her decision to create stories about women, friendship, family and triumph over adversity leavened with her trademark honesty and humor.
Wendy's writing has been highly praised. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says she "writes with breezy wit and keen insight into family relations." Her books have been featured in national publications such as USA Today and Woman's World, and at online book sites such as On a Clear Day I Can Read Forever, Luxury Reading, Book Reporter, Night Owl Reviews and Fresh Fiction. In 2011 she was honored by the City of St. Pete Beach when the City Commission declared May 12th "Wendy Wax Day."
Prior to writing, Wendy worked in radio, television and film, most notably as writer, producer and host of The Home Front, which aired on PBS station across the country, and as the host of a Friday night radio show called Desperate & Dateless when she was both.
The mother of a toddler and a newborn when she first decided to write, Wendy admits it may not have been the best timing in terms of productivity. "I'm still not certain why I felt so compelled to write my first novel at that particular time," she says, "but that first book took forever." Since then, she's written ten others and an e-book original novella. In addition to THE HOUSE ON MERMAID POINT, OCEAN BEACH, TEN BEACH ROAD, CHRISTMAS AT THE BEACH, and WHILE WE WERE WATCHING DOWNTON ABBEY, they are MAGNOLIA WEDNESDAYS, THE ACCIDENTAL BESTSELLER, HOSTILE MAKEOVER, LEAVE IT TO CLEAVAGE, SINGLE IN SUBURBIA, and 7 DAYS AND 7 NIGHTS.
When not writing, Wendy spends much of her time speaking to writers groups and book clubs, enjoying time with her family, visiting relatives in St. Pete and reading. She lives in Atlanta, where she and her husband are adjusting to their new life as empty nesters.
Wendy loves to hear from her readers! You can reach her at wendy@authorwendywax.com.

I have been reading this series by Wendy Wax, and I love the characters and look forward to the next adventure of these house-flipping ladies!

I enjoy the back story of building rehabilitation, however, this book felt that it was focused a bit more on the story and character development.

Just starting this book, so far, very interesting, I can't wait for the time to get into deep reading, may not be able to stop until finished.

Wendy Wax is the Queen of Do Over! As you can see by my reviews—have read every book in this incredible Ten Beach Road series and each, A 5-Star Winner; however, I believe THE HOUSE ON MERMAID POINT is my favorite thus far!

From the stunning front cover (hats off to the designer) to the last page— these characters grab you by the heart and do not let go-for a page-turner. A group of kick ass, talented, and smart women, you will grow to love, for a must read series. Ten Beach Road, Ocean Beach, Christmas at the Beach, and The House on Mermaid Point. (you have to read them all)!

Wendy Wax has found her calling! Humor, wit, interior design, architecture, reality TV, renovations, fun girl time, celebrities, sexy tropical locations, beautiful homes, hot men, good food and drink, and juicy love connections (what is not to love)?

A well written, much loved series of transformations and peeling back of the layers of not only homes, and mansions, but the personal lives of those involved.

Even though I love all the women, Maddie is very special woman, at age 51, many readers will relate with her, as I did. The self-confidence and image factor, in an age of dating when compared to younger women, especially when they have given their life to their former husband, now divorced, having spent their life raising a family.

Was super glad THE HOUSE ON MERMAID POINT offered Maddie some limelight, and happiness, as she is the rock of the crew and her relationship with Hot William was dynamite (please let this couple continue), as they are not done—they sizzle!

Wow, William was such an interesting powerful and sexy character (former rock star musician) and loved seeing his transformation.

Format: Paperback
Maddie, Avery, Nicki and other characters are back to renovate another broken-down home, this time in the Florida Keys. William Hightower, a former rock star known as “William the Wild” is a recovering alcoholic who is forced by his son to agree to this renovation as there isn’t a penny left from all Will’s years of being a star. What does one do with life when the fame, the booze and drugs aren’t there as one’s foundation?
Avery and her mother Deirdre are still at war with each other, payback for all the years in which Deirdre ran off and left her daughter alone.
Maddie is newly divorced from Steve who lost his job and his pride but who never allowed Maddie to have her own life and falsely believed she could not function without him. Is he in for a surprise! With her daughter Kyra and her grandson Dustin, they say their goodbyes to what was their home for years, uncertain about what the future will bring.
Nicki, the former owner of a dating agency, like so many others who were bankrupted by a Ponzi scam, is also wondering how this latest venture will give her both security and some ideas for the future. She also is bound for a life-changing point of view.
William is not exactly the most endearing of characters, that is until he meets Maddie. But both are intriguing characters as they slowly warm up to each other and yet also have some major misunderstandings about their stereotypical ideas about romance and the roles of men and women. All this occurs while they are doing back-breaking but marvelous work recreating William’s home into something that will indeed breed new life for many in future years!
Add to that the glorious descriptions of magnificent flora, fauna, ocean views, houseboats, architecture and the reader will relish this book as a sequel to Ten Beach Road but also as a stand-alone lovely novel.
Nicely done again, Wendy Wax!!!

I loved The House on Mermaid Point. The women find themselves intrigued and challenged by the new project on the private island. They’re all getting along better than ever which helps when it comes to tackling the renovation as well as personal issues. With each renovation project the women have experienced personal growth and become more confident.

In this book, Madeline shines as she overcomes her shyness and reaches out to help the owner of the island, William. But will she be glad she took the chance? Deirdre and Avery (mother and daughter) are getting along better than they’d ever thought possible. Maddy’s grown daughter Kyra and her toddler son, Dustin, continue to try to ignore the paparazzi who hound them in hopes of getting photos. Dustin’s father is a famous film star that Kyra met on a movie project. Nicole is still in love with Joe but, given her two failed marriages, doesn’t want to marry him.

On top of all they’re going through they are expected to reno the buildings on the island in a few short months – the hottest months of the year. I loved how Wendy Wax brought the women back together and through the project. Their television show is titled Do Over - and, to a certain extent, that’s what each of the characters is doing with her life. The House on Mermaid Point is an entertaining novel that packs an emotional punch and left me hoping for another Florida project for the women ASAP.

If you haven’t read the previous novels in the series: Ten Beach Road; Ocean Beach; Christmas at the Beach (a novella) you won’t be lost in this book but I recommend reading them in order.
