Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The next in Deveraux’s Nantucket Brides trilogy begins at a wedding where the groom’s cousin, Prince Graydon Montgomery of tiny Lanconia, spies bridesmaid Toby Wyndam. He’s flummoxed when he realizes Toby can tell him apart from his twin brother, Rory, a feat that in family legend means Graydon and Toby are meant for each other. Wanting to spend more time with her, Graydon trades places with Rory, devising a way that Rory can keep up with affairs of state via cell phone while Graydon becomes not an heir to a kingdom, but rather a man enjoying himself for a week. When Rory breaks his arm, Graydon’s stay with Toby is extended. Even though she finds herself falling for him, Toby knows theirs is only a temporary fling. All goes well until the past overtakes the present when Graydon and Toby begin reliving similar lives in early Nantucket via a haunted house. Readers are strongly urged to read the first of the series, True Love (2013), in order to grasp all the complicated relationships before tackling this second book. --Pat Henshaw

I'll be honest: I liked the Edilean series. I was disappointed when I heard Jude was abandoning it to return to the Montgomery-Taggerts. Having said that, it seems that Jude has entered a second Renaissance with this series, and this book is just everything a fan could ask for, and then some.

Graydon Montgomery is the Crown Prince of Lanconia. He has come to Nantucket with his twin, Rory, for the wedding of Jared Montgomery Kingsley to Alix Madsen (Book 1 in the series, True Love.) He's immediately smitten with bridesmaid Toby Wyndam, who has simply never found a man worthy of tempting her into a love affair. However, Graydon is engaged-to-be-engaged to an appropriate lady in Lanconia. Graydon immediately tells Toby who he is, thankfully, so there's none of this "I have to tell you something..." later. They start out as friends. Graydon arranges to stay on Nantucket for a week while his twin pretends to be him back home. As Graydon and Toby get to know each other better, they are swept back into the past to fix a two-hundred-year-old love affair that ended in tragedy.

For a veteran Jude fan, this book is like a wish list woven together as enthralling entertainment. The return of the Lanconians! Many inside-joke references to past Mongomery books! (Toby is "A Maiden," wink-wink, nudge-nudge!) Time travel! A cameo by J.T. and Aria!!!! (I know, they HAVE to be in their 90s, but...hey, royalty lives long lives, right? Look at Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.) And even though you might think halfway through that the ending is going to be predictable...it's not.

Even though it's difficult for me, someone who has read Jude Deveraux's books for about 25 years, I tried to seriously look at this from the point of view of the non-fan.

This is what I wrote to Jude on her fan page:
Jude, I just finished reading For All Time. I totally loved it! The moment I started reading I didn't want to put it down. Unfortunately I had to go to work. Each lunch hour I read, and almost was late coming back from lunch. Today, finally able to have a leisurely Saturday morning to sit on my comfy patio swing, amongst my garden, the finches and hummingbirds I was able to climb into the lives of Toby/Tabitha and Graydon/Garrett. Such a beautiful love story! I didn't want it to ever end...perhaps it won't. Thank you for staying true to yourself in your writing and not letting the naysayers keep a good storyteller down. I know I will read this book again and again as I have ALL of your others. Thank you for keeping the young romantic heart of this 60 year old woman forever young and believing in love.

For All Time by Jude Deveraux is the second book in her Nantucket Brides Trilogy and it does not disappoint. After reading “True Love”, the first book in the trilogy I had to visit Nantucket to see if it was as described in the book. I am thrilled to tell you Jude does justice to Nantucket and if you feel like you have been there after reading either of the books you will have gotten an accurate picture of the Island.

That being said, For All Time is about Toby and Grayson who were set up as the next couple at the end of “True Love”. Grayson is the Crown Prince of Laconia and while attending the wedding of his cousin Jared Montgomery Kingsley to Alix Madsen, meets bridesmaid and amateur wedding planner Toby Wyndam. When Toby is able to tell Grayson and his brother Rory apart, Gray finds a way to stay on the Island so that he can get to know her better. If you are a fan of Jude’s and have read other of her books in the Montgomery - Taggert series, you know about the Laconia legend that the says the person who can tell the twins apart is their true love. Well Grayson is so smitten with Toby, that he spends as much time as possible with Toby exploring his fascination with her and trying to decide how to deal with it all.

Mix in the ghosts from the first book and the storyline from the past and trying to fix the mistakes of the past to help the future and you have a entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable read. Now add in characters from previous books who you fell in love with years ago and who make appearances here and you have a book you can’t put down.

“For All Time” is not a stand alone book and if you don’t read “True Love” first you will be lost with all the characters and how they all relate to each other and the story too.

It was very confusing. There were too many past people from the other stories. This was not one of Jude's best.

Jude Deveraux, I adore you. Throughout the years, you've made me laugh, smile and cry. I've wanted my own Montgomery man and have wanted a little of the magic you create in my real life.

I would give you five stars just for being Jude Devereaux.

But as a reviewer, I can't do that.

I stayed through the extremely long first dream sequence, even as I yawned. I stayed through the second with a determination that surprised me. I stayed through the third dream sequence with a groan. I even got through some of the time travel. And then I realized that I couldn't finish this book.

My favorite romance in the book was between two minor characters. And though I loved Toby, Graydon had the personality of a Ken doll.

Ms. Devereaux, I'm not through with reading you. I'll be back. I'm just going to skip this little trilogy. You are a five star writer - this is just a one star book for me.
