Book Description

From the author of the bestselling, A Shade of Vampire series, comes an enchanting new tale of romance and intrigue...

My name is Kiev Novalic. I am a vampire, and a murderer.

Having betrayed the trust of my own kind and that of the enemies I sold myself to, I have three days left to live.

I stare at the girl in the cell opposite mine. Mona, she calls herself. A witch born without magic.

She might be my key to freedom, but I should know to stay away.

I should know: some scars are etched too deep to heal.

I guess my life as a writer started when I was five; I'd sit under the kitchen table with my box of multi-colored wax crayons (I miss those) and create picture books. Creative writing was always my favorite subject and I used any free time I had to sit down with a notepad.

Not much has changed, except that now I have developed vampirish habits: my writing "day" typically starts at 1am.

As with all readers who fall in love with a series, I was nervous about a spin off from the Shade series. I should have known better! This is BELLA FORREST, for goodness sakes! Once again, she knocked it out of the park! Although this book flows beautifully from the seventh book in the Shade series, it can also stand on its own for folks who haven’t had the opportunity to read about the Shade.

For those folks who loved “bad boy Kiev” in the Shade series, they will only fall more madly in love with him in “A Shade of Kiev”! For those readers who were on the fence about giving their heart to such a scoundrel, this may start a new trend of “love for the bad boys”! (Come on, girls – admit it - you know we all love a good bad boy occasionally.) Bella dug deep in this story. There were so many questions swirling around the fan pages about Kiev after the release of book 7 in the Shade series, and Bella gives many of those questions answers – although not always the answers the readers are expecting! Once again she gives us so many twists and turns and “OH MY GOD!” and “NO WAY!” moments that by the end of the book I was so entranced, I already read it again!

She introduces new characters that pull at your heart strings and others that make you want to claw their eyes out! I was thrilled that Bella continued her signature of giving the main male character a strong and feisty female counterpart! (I can’t STAND whiney, sniveling, female leads!) Go, Mona! I was also quite intrigued with the introduction of some new supernatural species (you’ll remember book 7 ended with the possibility of a werewolf being washed up on the shores of the Shade – that was just a small preview).

A Shade of Kiev, what an awesome read. The twists and turns just kept me so engrossed in the book. Love the female lead, Mona she's a total badass. The island where she lives is amazing. The way Bella describes her house I just want to live there. All the characters are so colorful. I just love this book. It's amazing.. I love how Kiev evolves for Mona!!
I received an Arc in exchange for an honest review.

One of the best of the series for a side story to Sophie and Derek's saga. Kiev is the ultimate monster in their series and yet in the 7th novel we get a brief glimpse that maybe we don't know Kiev as much as we think we do. After being possessed by the Elder and killing Natalie, horribly, Kiev finds a way to escape and ends up a prisoner awaiting execution at The Aviary. An escape riot allows him to grab on to a witch for escape and ends up with her on a island occupied by pirates and outcasts of the paranormal world. Hoping to find a way to escape his past, Kiev is given a task of befriending the witch, Mona. Mona is as stand-offish as they come and Kiev thinks that this is a task beyond his skills, talents and time. When Mona tasks him with pretending to be her novels hero, Adrian, Kiev sees the opportunity to figure out Mona's story and accomplish the task the werewolf leader has given him to secure his staying on the island.
Kiev has to avoid Natalie's brother, and others that may recognize him and have knowledge of his past sins of destruction and killing while under the power of the Elder and it is Matteo, Natalie's brother, forgiveness after a brutal beating of Kiev that he finally finds hope for a new life, maybe with Mona.
To understand all that Kiev has done, it would be best to read Sophia and Derek's stories in 1-7, but it is not necessary.
This does have a cliffhanger at the end.

I've read all of the books, so far, and I have to say... They just keep getting better. I'm really excited for this series and I'm upset that I can't read the next one, yet! Not fair! Lol. I loved it! I love the turmoil and Kiev has always been amazing. This book has it all! I couldn't stop reading it!

I couldn't believe I read the entire book within hours. I need more and can't wait for the next book! It's like this with every book of Bella 's books. You won't be disappointed with your purchase. I highly recommended reading books 1-7 in the series 1st.

I love this book, As with the rest of The Shade books. I love that this one starts pretty much right where the last one ends. Once you pick up Kiev you wont want to put it down. This is the best Vampire series I have ever read.

Alright so I have to say that this story was flawless in my opinion. The character development was strong. I loved seeing a different side of Kiev and his internal struggles. The beginning scene caught my breath thats for sure.
Mona is super intriguing, you just want to know more about her past and how she got where she is. Which is why the ending worked perfectly for me. Left me wanting more. I liked the different povs as well.
Also starting this series where Kiev was left on the island from book 7 was perfect. As a shadeaddict I was grateful for that.
I felt the story flowed smoothly and I had no trouble keeping up. I loved seeing the relationship develop between Kiev and Mona . Im so looking forward to seeing where this goes. This is a must read! 5 stars! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
