Series: River of Time
Paperback: 430 pages
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform; first edition (September 3, 2014)
You want to know what I feared? I feared the finale would sag. That it would be short--or stretch too long. That it would be sappy and too easy--or that it would depress me.
After all, this is the Black Plague we're talking about here. And characters I've loved and followed not just for 5 previous books but for the multiple (*multiple*) times I've reread those 5 previous books.
This final installment in the River of Time series does none of that. The length is mammoth and just right, yet I read it in two days. The romance and adventure and surging richness of the other books are all present, but this is a whole new level of life.
The characters are more mature, the stakes are higher, the family has grown, and the plague is upon them.
Something else I feared: that everyone would both die. Yep, I thought maybe Lisa would go and pull a Roth or something and I'd be left heartbroken and have to get rid of the other books because I couldn't even look at them anymore. Well, at the risk of being all spoiler-y, everybody doesn't die. But not everyone lives. The plague is real, people, and it's horrible. And uncontainable, despite the Betarrini's best efforts.
This book is one of my favorites--and ranks as high as Waterfall when it comes to my favorite in this series. Which is fitting, since this has got to be my favorite YA series of all time? Why? Because there are secrets and twists and I can never figure out where it's going but I don't care because I just want to get there.
For fans of books that make you think, feel, cry, laugh, and smile, here's one of the best.
Disclosure: The author not only gave me the privilege of reading this book pre-release but I was able to proofread it as well. Which means I was wiping my eyes and fixing the stray typo. Best job ever.

Wow. Seriously, wow. Writing a novel can be daunting enough, but sometimes even more daunting is writing a sequel...or a finale. In comparison to the first in a series, many times the following books can be left a little flat, as though the best of the author was all put in to the first. Not so with the River of Time Series.
I am generally a very happy-book kind of reader. A bit of drama, a measure of suspense, romance with a chemistry you can feel. The first three books really fit the bill for my kind of reading. High in romance, suspense, and, the best - but hardest - aspect of a past era novel - believability. Authenticity. When the novellas for this series were coming out, I wondered how the author would do with those afterthoughts, and was pleasantly surprised to see how they picked up right off where the others left off. I'm not talking about timeline, but tone. The characters held the same traits, mannerisms, and actions that had made them so great in the first three books. I was bummed to come to the end of the novellas because I wanted more. When I heard she wanted to write Deluge, I started getting excited simply because I loved the Forellis and Betarrinis so much. As it got closer and I started seeing it take form (via Facebook updates for those that have 'liked' the River of Time series), I was getting reeeeeeeally excited for it.
Much as it was for me in reading the last Harry Potter installment, I was thrilled but so anxious when I got my hands on Deluge. Would it be a good ending? Would anything happen that I really didn't want to happen? Talk about nail-biter anticipation!
Really disappointing! My 16 year old daughter has the first 4 books & she & I so loved them with Torrent being our favorite. We have been stalking Lisa T. Bergren waiting for this book since February & it was so much of a bummer we couldn’t believe it. It started out strong & held that way for a while before it turned totally random & the characters & plot were just all over the place. The epilogue was equally frustrating. REALLY glad I only paid $3.99 on Amazon Kindle!!! Also feel the need to state that this was my daughters favorite series - but she was mad I gave it 2 stars - she thought it should be 0.

What a wonderful book!! At times it was very hard to read and you were just to busy bawling your eyes out. It was beautiful, heart wrenching, sob worthy, giggle happy, and agonizingly frustrating and agonizingly capture your attention! I loved it and everyone knew it cause of my red blotchy face. No book is great unless you can sob in it!! This had to be my favourite book out the series and I loved them all so much!! What a great book and it was super fun to read too!! If you haven't read this series yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!! It is wonderful!!

I Loved this series from the very beginning and absolutely could not wait for Deluge. But it was a bitter disappointment... The first half was okay but the book lacked the usual lightheartedness that she would inject even in tense situations. It had a completely different feel than the other stories...which in a way I understand as the characters need to mature but there were so many random things thrown in that when I finished it I was left feeling utterly depressed! Such a disappointment for the finale of a wonderful series.
