This story takes place in Salem with witches, ghost tours, dead people talking & showing up to help solve several murders. Craig Rockwell is an FBI agent that found a girl murdered years ago and has been haunted by that event all these years. When another woman is murdered in a similar way he steps in to help solve this murder reuniting with his two best childhood friends Vince & Jack. Devin Lyle lives in Salem and writes children's books about a witch, based on Devin's deceased aunt. Devin's Aunt Mina is a hoot and I really enjoyed her.

The story was interesting because Heather Graham gives a lot of details about the surrounding areas in her books and I like that history. There is danger, a love story, numerous victims, Krewe of Hunters investigators that were in the earlier books and a host of her characters that we learn about.

I had figured out who the killer was before the end but not so far ahead that it ruined the suspense for me. You can read this book as a stand alone but I have enjoyed the entire series so I have read the books in order. I would recommend this series.

Okay, so I looked this author up when I finished the book since I was unfamiliar with her work. I found 12 previous books in this particular series. I was actually surprised because this book did not give me the feeling of being lost in a series where I needed tons of prior knowledge. I appreciated that fact.

I knew going into this story that it would have some paranormal aspects, but I wasn't sure how they would play out. Turns out it is based around a covert FBI group called the Krewe of Hunters ( named after New Orleans parade krewes). The Krewe is made up of people with various paranormal abilities which they use to solve crimes. In this case, the crime is a murder with a matching case over a decade old. The murders seem to be linked to the Salem witch trials and our two main characters.

Our hero, Rocky, and heroine, Devin, meet accidentally over the third dead body. Devin's knowledge of the town history and her newly discovered paranormal abilities end up pulling her into the case. The two of them work with other members of the krewe and local police to track down the killer. They are obviously attracted to each other, but are fairly slow acting on it. Rocky tends to be cautious and protective. Devin is very loyal, persistent, and optimistic. They make a good team and receive the approval of Devin's ghostly aunt who plays a big part in the story.

If you like police/FBI procedural type novels, you will likely enjoy this book. It gives a lot of details regarding the leg work the police and krewe go through while hunting the killer. Ghostly Auntie Mina is a nice addition, as are the other ghosts who help out during the investigation. The plot was interesting and kept me guessing until the last moment. There were so many possible suspects.

Once again, another solid novel in the Krewe of Hunters series. All of them are great stand alone novels, but the fact that you get to see more of the lives of characters you have previously spent time withe is great too!

Peabody, Massachusetts high school senior, Craig “Rocky” Rockwell is not into Melissa Wilson though she makes it clear she wants him. When he hears her calling out to him, he ignores her until he realizes she pleads for him to help her. Thinking of slasher movies he rushes towards where he believes the voice emanates; only to find Melissa with her throat sliced.

Thirteen years later, a second female victim in nearby Swampscott with the same M.O. of a sliced throated, posed as a pentagram and a silver medallion on her chest enables FBI Agent Rocky’s transfer to the Krewe of Hunters unit. Special Agent Jackson Crow assigns him to the Massachusetts case though there is some concern over his emotional attachment to the first known vic.

Following the death of her great-Aunt Mina, Devin Lyle inherits her cabin and moves back to Salem to live there. She finds a corpse nearby her home, which brings Rocky into her life. They both quickly realize they share in common the ability to talk with ghosts as her Aunt Mina tries to assist them on their inquiry.

The latest Krewe of Hunters urban fantasy police procedural (see The Cursed and Phantom Evil) is a thrilling entry in which Heather Graham captures the essence of coastal Massachusetts north of Boston (I lived in the area including a wonderful month in Peabody in the early 1980s). Although the protagonists feel less developed than the usual zoo Krewe, the paranormal investigation brings as always top rate enjoyment with the otherworldly elements feeling genuine; while Ms. Graham hauntingly brings to life (and death) Salem and the surrounding towns.

*****

Dark brooding mysteries and delicious thrills in this new Krewe of Hunters novel by Heather Graham!!

FBI agent Craig Rockwell, 'Rocky', has been followed by the unsolved murder of a childhood friend. When he is accepted as part of the Krewe to investigate a new murder with the same MO thirteen years after the original one, he feels he finally has the back up he needs to follow his instincts, and his ghostly guidance. Especially needed when he is back where he grew up, looking at old friends and school mates as possible suspects now.

Her discovery of the body of a woman near her cabin has put Devin Lyle in the middle of a murder investigation that brings Rocky to her doorstep. She is stunned to find he can see and interact with her dead great-aunt Mina, who is trying to help with the investigation, which seems to point at witchcraft. Something Devin can assist Rocky with. But they find they have more than this investigation in common..

Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters books are the rare exceptions to my 'no paranormal' rule!! Her story lines always stay rooted in the here and now, even though the route to get from question to answer may be under the guidance of a spirit or two! The open minded attitude toward all that is possible yet unseen, appeals to me, especially when it isn't used as an excuse to create a host of unearthly resolutions and outcomes to cover up poorly executed plots. Not at all an issue for this fabulous author. The plots are tight, the twists keep coming and you will keep guessing until the last pages. Add to that a generous helping of scrumptious heat, and you have THE HEXED.

✨A splash of spicy romance in an evil twisted tale!✨
