From Booklist

Henderson continues the story line from Unspoken (2013), as readers meet Gina Gray, a prodigy who started college at age 14 and discovered a top-secret way for submarines to view the depths of the ocean undetected, but has always aspired to the roles of wife and mother. That dream looks doomed when her boyfriend dumps her. She heads to the West Coast, where her brother, Jeff, a naval submariner, is based. There she puts her prodigious science skills to work trying to make the submarine fleet safer. Mark Bishop, a widowed commander of a nuclear submarine, has decided to remarry, but has to find a woman who will be as strong, smart, and compatible as his late wife. Jeff tries to play matchmaker, but Gina and Mark believe that their age difference is too great. Although Henderson goes a bit overboard in her intricately detailed descriptions of submarines, this leisurely paced tale of friendship evolving into love will strongly appeal to fans of evangelical Christian fiction. --Diana Tixier Herald --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Back Cover

When asked what he does for a living . . .

Commander Mark Bishop is deliberately low-key: "I'm in the Navy." But commanding the ballistic missile submarine USS Nevada, keeping her crew trained and alert during ninety-day submerged patrols, and being prepared to launch weapons on valid presidential orders, carries a burden of command like few other jobs in the military. Mark Bishop is a man who accepts that responsibility, and handles it well. And at a time when tensions are escalating around the Pacific Rim, the Navy is glad to have him.

Mark wants someone to come home to after sea patrols. The woman he has in mind is young, with a lovely smile, and very smart. She's a civilian, yet she understands the U.S. Navy culture. And he has a strong sense that life with her would never be boring. But she may be too deep in her work to see the potential in a relationship with him.

Gina Gray would love to be married. She has always envisioned her life that way. A breakup she didn't see coming, though, has her focusing all her attention on what she does best--ocean science research. She's on the cusp of a major breakthrough, and she needs Mark Bishop's perspective and help. Because what she told the Navy she's figured out is only the beginning. If she's right, submarine warfare is about to enter a new and dangerous chapter.

"This leisurely paced tale of friendship evolving into love will strongly appeal to fans of evangelical Christian fiction." --Booklist

In this book, there was a bit too much technical info about submarines for me.

I hated Full Disclosure ( I know, this is a different book...bear with me), and I still feel slightly guilty for the review I left for it.... but as I looked back on it, after reading Undetected, I have to stand by it. I looked back, and mention it in this review, because after reading Henderson's three most recent releases, I went in search of what changed in her stories. Why was there such a vast difference between the books of old (the O'Malleys...the Uncommon Heroes) and her new books?

While I'm still not sure I've put my finger on it, the thing that sticks out to me the most is that I feel like the emotions are gone from her books. There is this...chasm in her new books that separates the story from evoking any feelings from the reader.

It shows up most glaringly in the romance in the books. In Full Disclosure, I wouldn't even call it a romance, because it was so heartless, and, to be frank, I hated Ann. Hated her. Unspoken was marginally better... the characters were at least likeable, if not still unrelatable. But, their romance was still so flat...it made me sort of sad that it was even considered romance. I know all relationships are different, as several people pointed out in the comments of my Full Disclosure review, so I know this is just my opinion, but I look back at the relationship development in her older books, and the difference is startling. The number of instances where the characters' feelings are even mentioned is incredibly lower.

To be fair, Undetected is leaps and bounds better than Full Disclosure was, but it is nowhere near her older books. Even aside from the comparisons, for those who haven't read Henderson's older works (which I would highly recommend reading!!), there are still things that just didn't work (for me) in Undetected.

I LOVED the Uncommon Heros and O'Malley Series, and I have bought Dee's last three books hoping that I'll see some sign of the author I loved. I hated the characters in both "Full Disclosure" and "Unspoken" and found the story lines very boring, so when "Undetected" came out I bought it hoping that it would be better and more like that Dee I used to know. It wasn't. There were no twists and turns, no unpredictability. The story line was boring and the characters fell flat. It was too boring!

It’s hard being a brainiac genius. Gina Gray knows this all too well. She wants nothing more than to get married, but finding the right guy- someone who isn’t intimidated by her intelligence- has left her with nothing but a broken heart.

Some of Gina’s expertise is in sonar. As in, under the water sonar used by submarines. As the sister of a sub commander, Gina’s sonar work was paramount in keeping him safe.

After a particular stunning and unexpected break up, Gina decides to head West to stay with her brother for a while; work, and try to mend her wounded heart. And see if her brother can recommend a guy for her.

Mark Bishop is one of Je Gray’s best friends, and also a submarine commander. He’s not surprised to see Gina, and can tell she’s using work as a distraction. Since Je is still underwater,- literally- Mark decides to keep an eye on Gina, knowing how dangerous her sonar work could be to her personal safety.

Mark, a widower, is also looking for love. Well, marriage, at least. After 10 years as a devoted and loving husband, he really misses not having anyone waiting when he comes home from sea. He misses everything about being a husband. When Je arrives home and casually suggests Mark think about dating his sister, Mark turns him down, thinking the age difference and friendship with Je would just be, well, weird.

And so, Daniel Field is introduced to Gina, and they get along really well. So well, in fact, that it’s not long before they are considered to be a couple, and Gina is invited to meet Daniel’s family.

As part of her work, Gina works closely with both Mark and Daniel, neither of whom mind that she now needs 24/7 security as a result of her discoveries.

This is an elegantly written love story that will send your heart spinning on a most extraordinary and complex rollercoaster. You won’t see the twists and turns coming in this story, and you will treasure each of them. My heart didn’t want to let go of these unforgettably unique and beautiful characters.
Mark Bishop loves his job as a commander in the Navy. He couldn’t ask for a more challenging or fulfilling job, and he leads one of the best crews in the Navy in his humble opinion. It would seem that he has it all, but in reality there is a huge piece that is missing in his life. He lost his first wife to a tragic accident, and now his heart has begun to long for a friend, a companion, and a lover again. Gina Gray has genius level intelligence. She has never grown comfortable with the gift of her mind, and has struggled to fit in and feel anything close to normal. Instead of embracing her talents, she fights against them not knowing how to deal with the impact of her impressive discoveries. She longs for love, but each time she opens up, her heart gets broken. When true love quietly walks into her tumultuous life, will she welcome it and hold it close or will she push it away in fear of it completely breaking her?
The thought-provoking yet heart-warming mix of characters set the stage for a fascinating adventure and a breathtaking love affair. Watching as two very different people in opposite orbits slowly converge to fall into the same course was agonizing and stunning at the same time. Their simple yet powerful love healed their deep-seated hurt and opened up a new life for them that neither could have imagined.
What touched my heart the most was watching Gina fight against and then slowly accept her gift with the help of Mark’s gentle love and persistent encouragement.
