It's been a long while since I've read one of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series books and I was a little concerned going in I might be lost not knowing everything that's taken place in the last 6 books or so but that was not the case. Once again I became immersed in this world and these characters without missing a step mainly due to the flawless writing by this author. Although novella length, Tempted by Midnight is every bit as provocative, seductive, suspenseful, and sexy as reader's have come to expect from this author and an excellent addition to this series.
Gen One Breed warrior Lazaro lost everything when his breedmate and entire family was wiped out 20 years ago. He's cut himself off from his feelings and refuses to ever put another woman or family in harm's way with the work he does for The Order. When Melena Walsh walks back into his life he tries to bury what he feels for her; the need, the want but a perilous situation has their emotions running high and Lazaro finds his control shattered.
There was no denying the heat between these two or the bond that started years ago. Lazaro was a typical stubborn Breed warrior but what I loved is Melena had no issue calling him out. She simply refused to let him off easy and told him exactly what she thought. Sure it made him angry and yes, that anger turned into some fast and furious sexy times but it also helped her prove he was not as immune as he pretended to be. I loved the way she pushed him to confront his feelings and the fact that she didn't back down. I'll admit at times I wanted to knock some sense in to Lazaro but I could also understand why he was so determined to keep his distance because more than he wanted Melena, he wanted her safe.Read more ›

Tempted By Midnight is story number 12.5 in Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed Series as well as novella number 10 in the 1,001 Dark Nights Series. I am always thrilled to read a new story from Lara Adrian and head back into the Breed world and this novella was spectacular. Packed with emotion, heat, and action, I devoured it in one sitting and loved every second.
Leader of the Order’s Italian command center, Lazaro Archer was used to sensing threats and eliminating them. It was his sole focus, especially now that his family had been taken from him in a horrific manner years before. Preparing for an important meeting with political members with the hopes of ending the strife between the Breed, vampires, and humans, he thought he knew all the players intended on coming to the meeting…and then he saw her. The intriguing and beautiful red-head that shouldn’t be here. Melena. But here she was and his reaction, and attraction, to her was almost immediate. He remembered her from almost another lifetime ago, and remembered saving her from an untimely demise when she fell into an icy lake when she was much younger. She was grown now, and with beauty and brains to spare, he shouldn’t wonder why he was attracted to her. But could he really forget all that he had lost in the past? His family? There wasn’t too much time to ponder more on that night because as fate would have it, he would have to rescue her once again before the evening came to an end…
Melena Walsh would never forget Lazaro Archer. He had saved her life and she will be eternally grateful for that. Now she was here with him and wanted nothing more than to thank him for what he had done all those years earlier. Lara Adrian is and always will be my GO TO Paranormal Romance author. I fell in love with the Midnight Breed Series long ago, and I can only hope that this series continues on for a very long time. Ms. Adrian is a brilliant writer, transporting us to a paranormal world full of such erotic intensity and drama filled wonder. I can’t help but become immersed in her ability to take me away from my drab reality. The Midnight Breed Series will quickly become one of your favorites, and it’s a series in which you will, no doubt, be reading over and over again for years to come.
Finally, Lazaro Archer’s story! I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally read Lazaro’s happily ever after. No one deserves it more than this beautiful, intense, and brooding man. With his Breedmate and family killed long ago, he has become a hard man, a man who doesn’t mess round, a man broken. When a meeting goes terribly wrong, Lazaro finds himself with an armful of fiery beauty. Not knowing how to act and confused about his feelings towards this woman he knew long ago as just a child, he ends up pushing her away while craving her touch, her warmth from far away. With Melena’s recent loss, Lazaro can absolutely relate to the pain she is experiencing. The fire between the two can no longer be denied, and when they finally come together, it burns brighter than they ever thought possible. Lazaro wants to keep Melena safe, he CANNOT lose another female he cares deeply for, he is NOT safe and therefore he pushes her away. But danger lurks everywhere, and when he pushes her away, he pushes her into something more dangerous than he can ever imagine.
What a FANTASTIC, angst-filled, deliciously sexy novella. I knew Ms. Adrian would do Mr. Archer justice. Such a perfect HEA for such an amazing character that we have all grown to love. A great love story decades in the making.
