More About the Author

Lora Leigh lives in the rolling hills of Kentucky, often found absorbing the ambience of this peaceful setting. She dreams in bright, vivid images of the characters intent on taking over her writing life, and fights a constant battle to put them on the hard drive of her computer before they can disappear as fast as they appeared.

Lora's family, and her writing life co-exist, if not in harmony, in relative peace with each other. Surrounded by a menagerie of pets, friends, and a teenage son who keeps her quick wit engaged, Lora's life is filled with joys, aided by her fans whose hearts remind her daily why she writes.

You know. I get it, I really do. These books are escapists. Not everything has to be uber realistic but there are times, and this is one of them, where you get the feeling the author must think her readers are idiots. I mean really really brain dead in order to believe some of the stuff that goes on here. This trilogy was not my favorite but it was a case of once your in, you kinda want to finish...so I did. The plot to this whole trilogy had real potential, but seriously, I began to wonder HOW STUPID ARE THESE PEOPLE? One guy ruins everybody's life and NOBODY can catch him doing it? I will be talking spoilers here people so be warned..
1. Amelia stays in an abusive relationship to save Crowe? he wasn't even in her life at that point anymore.
2. Her mother and real father are alive, and instead of coming forward they hide? So the Serial killer can continue? If everyone had just come out into the open sooner, you know how much heartache could have been avoided?
3. I love the erotica but seriously? 5 pages to explain ONE orgasim? " im dying! Im dying! - You not dying honey, your bored. well, Amelia, turn on your TV, go over your shopping list or plain ole pass out, cuz I did about 3 pages ago. This goes on in EVERY chapter WE GET IT ALREADY!- I honestly skipped about 15 pages of boring sex just to try to get back to the plot.
4. The child emerges from the shadows...nice touch. I actually liked this concept... EXCEPT. She was supposedly born 3.5 months premature? No neurological problems? No physical defects? 12 weeks early and this child has NO problems? Most children will not even survive at this point AND when Crowe doesn't react the way she wants him to, SHE PUTS HIM IN HIS PLACE? 6 years old and he is putting adults in their place? Give me a frickin break already- at this point I really thought Ms. Leigh doesn't respect her readers intelligence. When Ms. Leigh does it well, she really does..and when she doesn't...wow. She really doesn't.

I was lost at the beginning of this book. Yes, I've read the others in the series, and maybe I should have re-read them before starting this one. For the first chapter (or 2 or 3), I had no clue what was going on. I also felt like there was too much sex. Yes, I said it -- too much sex. It seemed that every chapter ended with them taking off their clothes. I was shocked when a chapter ended with no sex. I'm not a prude; I buy erotic romances, but I felt that the sex took away from the plot of this story. I like Lora Leigh. I will continue to buy her books, but this one just didn't work for me. 2 stars. Darn.

I will start by saying once I started reading this book, I realized it was part of a series. Fortunately, that did not hinder me from being able to read it as a stand alone. However, I do think I might have enjoyed it even more if I had read the series in order.

The story is set in a small town where three young cousins are left alone when their families are all murdered. The young men grow up on the fringes of society raised by an uncle who eventually dies too leaving the cousins with only each other to depend on. They become the target of a serial rapist and killer who begins slaying every woman the young men have a relationship with. By the time this novel comes along in the series, everyone has just discovered who the killer is, and the hunt is on.

Crowe, one of the three young men, has been in love with Amelia for years but left her seven years ago to keep the killer from learning about their relationship. He has now discovered she was living with the killer all along...her abusive father. With her father on the run, Crowe believes Amelia needs his protection and is determined she will accept it whether she wants to or not. He tends to use their sexual chemistry as a persuasive force much of the time with some success although Amelia bucks against the suffocating feel of his protection.

Secrets and sins abound in this story of betrayal, courage, and renewal. I really was drawn to the characters and hooked into the story fairly quickly. I do feel the need to say that the sexual situations were much more graphic and frequent than I typically prefer to read, and the language (sexual and otherwise) was very explicit. For those reasons, I would have probably not finished the book had I not been so invested in the plot.

...Sugar Elf, aka Fairy-Girl, aka The Do-Gooder.

This book should have been called Utter Crap, not Ultimate Sins, as it was...utter crap. I am hoping that I got the pre-editor version. I hope, because if this has been through editing, the author got cheated and fans will be cheated.

I am so glad that I got an ARC, and that I now know not to buy it, as clearly, the author's lost the plot with this - either that, or she couldn't be bothered plotting at all. The tale jumped from one thing to another, seemingly without reason, just adding bits and pieces to the tale, randomly. It starts off with Crowe, the last single Callahan, getting info from teenage Amelia, who's betraying her father, the evil Wayne-the-Slasher, and getting down and dirty with her. He supposedly leaves her for her own good, so the tale immediately skips two years, and a few pages later, it skips another 5 years, I think, because Crowe's been finishing off his (military?) service and is now back in town to see to the evil that has haunted the Callahan family.

Of course, in LL land, the only way to flush WtS out, is for Crowe to sleep with Amelia, making her one of his women, and therefore a target. Amelia is happy to go along, but after the first time she and Crowe are together, she realises that she doesn't want to be used, but it's a case of the lady doth protest too much and before you know it, they're at it time and time again, with pretty much one scene morphing into the other, with just a tiny pause and bit of dialogue to separate them. There were so many instances of them going at it, that I found myself skipping the seen-that, read-that-before scenes; they never really varied and were pretty boring.
